It's been 10+ years since playing online poker. So I am a bit rusty. For the most part its like riding a bike. But I had a situation where i paused to really make a good decision.

Preflop I receive QQ. In early position, I raise 4x BB. Everybody folds to the button who makes it 140 BB. This is the pause. Yes, there are only two hands that beat me preflop. But would someone really ship 140 BB less than QQ's. How many hands am I really beating here?

BTW I called and the guy had AK. So, I was ahead in this situation. But how often are you going to get some to ship 140 BB pre-flop on AK?

Online poker is a whole different animal.

The same guy wouldn’t probably do that in an in-person match.

It depends on villains 3 bet shove range. Obviously AK is part of that range, but if his range is KK+, AK, then you shouldn’t fold. That range has 28 total combinations. 16 of them give you about 55% equity, 12 give you about 20%. That works out to about 40% equity vs that range. You need 48% to call, so you must fold.

Now, to put it politely, a 140bb 3 bet shove in response to a slightly larger than standard open is a nonstandard play. In short, villain probably is a fish. Given that he is shoving that large, he may well be a fish of the overly aggressive variety. I suspect his range is likely wider than KK+, AK. Even a few lower pairs or Ax combos should push your equity up to the point where you have a call.

First of all ... I'm a poor poker player who can't even consistently beat 3-6 LHE so take this as kind of a question.

I have no experience at NL cash and only a dozen or so very low stakes tourneys.

With AA or KK I would expect a smaller raise for value heads-up. A player who bets that much money heads-up is trying to take the pot down right away by making me get away from the lower end of hands in my raising range. AKs seems about right. I would call expecting to be ahead.

I realize that this goes out the window if you have a read on the player's tendencies (or s/he on yours).

I'd appreciate comments on the accuracy of my thoughts.

Thanks.

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!

But let's repose the question as if villain is the big blind.

FW(little) IW. I was watching Brad Owen's stream from the Lodge and there was a similar hand.

Raise from early position.
Re-raise late position (66)
All fold to raiser who goes all in.

My theory would have been wrong. All in had AA

These guys knew each other well and that may have strongly influenced the action.
