Hey guys,

If I play poker 20-25 hours a week and do DoorDash 15-20 hours a week, making around $2000-$3000 a month from poker and $1000 from DoorDash, does this mean I’d be considered a “professional gambler” when I file taxes because I pay more hours and earn more money from poker?

I started playing 2/5 this year and I’m making around $2-3k a month. I want to be able to put this money in the bank, invest in a 401k, use it for rent and just normal expenses. Anyone know if I’m still considered an amateur at this point given the information above?

I don't think there's a rule around at what point you have to file as a professional gambler. Even if you don't file as a professional gambler you're still required to report the poker income and pay taxes on it, pretty sure the only benefit of filing as professional gambler has to do with proof of income for mortgages and what not and the ability to write off expenses
