In a 1/3 nlh cash game, player A bets 10$, player B raises to 40$, player C is unaware of the raise and places only 10$ in the pot. Prior to any other action, the dealer tells C that it’s 40$ to him, not 10$. Can C remove his 10$ and fold, or must the 10$ remain in the pot? I know that if this were a tournament the 10$ must stay in the pot, but what about a cash game. Again, there is no action after C’s placing the 10$ prior to the dealer telling him the correct amount.

This rule varies a lot between rooms - in some places he can take it all back, in some he can leave the $10 in and fold, and in some he must call the entire $40.
I believe the third rule (must call the entire bet) is pretty rare these days, but the other two are each very common.
