between you and me, (dont go sharing this on your poker blogs) the bill isnt going up tomorrow which means it wont pass in this session...which means it will have to go through the whole process over again. sorry buddy.

this session ends on Monday and new one starts Tuesday, but it would have to go through a bunch of committees in both the Senate and Assembly, so who knows. Could be done by June, January '13, or never. Depends on why it was taken off the agenda and I dont know why it was. Most likely either didnt have the votes to pass or the Gov made it know behind the scenes that he wouldnt sign. Dont know though.

a couple of emails i got from a friend working in the NJ senate with whom i have been speaking to about this. obviously i have no proof one way or the other. just thought i should share.

Breaking: Gov. Christie on internet gaming bill
Quote:
I do not want to rush and get legislation that either doesn’t pass state constitutional muster, or creates other problems for us. So, I know that [Christie chief of staff] Kevin O’Dowd was working last night with Senator Lesniak on this issue, and I’m hopeful we can get it resolved as quick as possible.

Folks should know I favor it, I want to do it. I vetoed the last bill because I felt that it would open up the opportunity for there to be internet gambling houses all over the State of New Jersey. I don’t think that’s what anybody wants. But, I think being able to have this be an Atlantic City centric thing is something that makes sense to me. And given the Justice Department’s go ahead for people to be able to do it, I think we should go ahead and move on it. But, we have to do it in a responsible way and it should be Atlantic City-centric.

AC-centric? curious what that means, though something tells me i might not like the answer.

He wants the jobs that will be created from the bill to go to AC. Good to see he doesn't want to go state lottery route.

Christie has made restoring AC a pretty big point for his tenure. So far his success at it has seemed middling. He knows he has the power on getting the bill through and is aiming to get max value by saying he's creating jobs and generating revenue for the desperate AC.

Lesniak’s statement:

“Speaking with Governor Christie, I’ve agreed to reintroduce Internet gaming in the next legislative session, and I expect that we can get it through the Legislature and signed by the Governor within the first few weeks of the new session.

“I believe that Internet gaming has transformational potential for New Jersey’s gaming industries. While I remain hopeful that New Jersey can take the lead on this exciting new direction for wagering – which would result in new revenues, new jobs, and new economic activity in the Garden State – I recognize that the complex issues surrounding Internet wagering will take more time to iron out than we are afforded in the waning days of the current Legislative session.

This isn’t a question of ‘if’ New Jersey gets Internet wagering, but ‘when.’ My money’s on soon.”
This plus Christie seemingly behind it if a little cautious seems optimistic for us NJ residents. I don't like that it includes other wagering but I do find the idea of being part of the initial wave of legalized internet poker interesting.

Indeed, I hope it lights a fire under the feds' asses to get a bill moving!

I will be so happy if: 1) this passes 2) there's traffic 3) the rake doesn't suck. Probably <5% chance of all the above happening, but it's better than nothing.

looking like I might have to add another option to my Summer poker plans

Canada? Nevada? New Jersey?

1.) sounds as if this is a given 2.) this is New Jersey of course there will be traffic...ever try to go someplace on the weekend? 3.) the rake will only suck if there isn't enough traffic with bad players to offset that.

and your final ........it is better than status quo.......

Let's just hope there are enough options. I will not be happy if Trummp is the only one to offer this.

I'd move across the river if this passes.

I could see Harrah's/Caesar's, with their WSOP connections, doing this. As well as Trump.

caesar has struck a deal with 888 to provide software for their US operations

mgm did the same with partypoker

and it looked like tapie negotiated a deal with doj to be able to sell/lease FTP software to a US casino when the time comes.

and i hope stars makes a deal w the doj to allow the same (and for wynn to pick them back up, that'd bring advertising $ and brand marketing to the streets)

so i think the big players will be ready to 'turn the key' as soon as the regulators allow it.

and of course i hope other people will see the opportunity to invest in improved software.

Who is Revel linked with (I think that is the name of the new casino going up in AC)?. Also does anyone think the "B" will be jumping in with anyone.
01-05-2012 , 08:26 PM
Borgata is currently owned by MGM/Boyd though they have been trying to sell their stake. I believe they are part of the same MGM deal.

Lesniak was on the NJ Network tonight. He said Christie is ready to sign but that he is working with the gov's legal staff to make sure AC is satisfied. He said if the gov signed the bill within the next few weeks, we could be on board and playing again by summer.

This legalizes all internet gambling, right? If so, I think the poker rooms will suck. Hope it's great, but these gambling sites will do everything in their power to make sure the non-serious poker players focus on casino games.
01-05-2012 , 11:06 PM
and trump will be another player. he could buy the old full tilt software and replace all the blue colors with gold colors.

It is and of course some poker rooms will suck. However, the games will be much softer than on Merge.

1) There is a healthy growing home game curcuit throughout the state filled with huge fish that think they are good. Some of these guys played FTP and Stars and now with Casino brand names advertising you can expect that number to grow.

2) The type of degen that play pit games online and poker online are completely different demographics imo. The former being much more trashy and having less teeth

3) I'd imagine whoever wins our poker business will be a poker exclusive site (wsop.com or whatev).
