Hey,

I'm looking into the option of moving to Austria. I have found out that you don't have to pay tax on online poker winnings. I was wondering if you than have to pay income tax? Hoping to hear from people who have stayed there for awhile.

Has nothing to do wit taxes but: recently we had some court cases where the court ruled that all losses from gambling - for losses on online sites without Austrian licence (not EU) - are illegit and the casinos must pay back the money (there is only one casino with an online licence for Austria = state owney company) - some argue that if this continues the large online casinos might withdraw from Austria.

That's the important distinction. By default, Austrian tax payers can't generate "Einkünfte aus Gewerbebetrieb" from gambling.

So as long as no Austrian court rules that poker is a game of skill, income from poker isn't taxable.

Aside from tax situation, austria right now is probably one of the coolest hotspots for poker.
Thinking of going back to vienna again for a month or so as well just for this
