Live cash bankroll and buy-in size; deep 1/2 or 100bb 2/5? Live cash bankroll and buy-in size; deep 1/2 or 100bb 2/5?

Hi, everyone. My local casino has a rather deep buy-in range of $100-$500 for 1/2. I’ve started out just buying in for $200 but the soft games have made me consider buying in for max once I have the bankroll. However, conventional wisdom dictates that you move up in stakes as soon as possible because of the relatively lower rake (for both 1/2 and 2/5 its 10% up to $6 here). So if I’m already buying in for $500 anyway should I just move up and play 2/5 with 100bb? Do the softness of 1/2 and the deep stack skill advantage justify dealing with the higher rake?

tell me why you think the rake is higher at 1/2

Of course it’s numerically the same like I said but does it matter that it’s more big blinds at 1/2 than 2/5? Therefore it will often be a larger percentage of the total pot taken out. Thoughts?

If you're buying in for the same amount then, to you, it doesn't make any difference whatsoever, apart from the rare times where the specific action would cause the pot to be under $60 at 1/2 as opposed to 2/5, which in a typical live environment isn't often enough to be worth worrying about

You want to play in the softer game. Likely that's 1/2, but not necessarily.
