Hi guys. I have returned to poker after a long hiatus. I was a fullring crusher in the ftp days. Now I'm dabbling in online 6max which is going well for now.

There are some live opportunities nearby, I have been there twice and its great fun.

My question is how hard do you have to crush to beat this rake structure, I have no clue about the math. This seems really hard to beat. Yesterday there were 2 whales, 3 terrible regs (fish) and one decent player, playing mostly 7 handed.

Would you play this?

Thanks in advance.

Its not a homegame, its a highly profitable underground poker room.

Profitability from a player perspective depends on how deep stacks are, but generally 10bb at 10% is pretty hard to beat..

If you only have one decent other player in the game it is def beatable unless you are much worse than that one player. If your opposition is playing too loose passive as usual in live games the main adjustment to high rake is to play tighter

If the game does not fill up (i.e. they are short on players), you can always ask the host for rakeback. If you do, do so in private, so the other players do not overhear.

$20 max rake is hard to overcome, though from what I've heard that's pretty standard for a lot of these underground games. This is 2-3x what's being raked in casino games.

It can still be a profitable situation for you, but it really depends on the player pool and how deep you're playing. If everyone's only sitting with $200-$400, I wouldn't even play in the game.

Also as someone else mentioned, if you do start to play there regularly and become a key cog in the game then you could privately talk to the game runner and try to negotiate some type of rake back. In a vacuum though, this doesn't sound like a very appealing game to me.
