I have my eye on Chasers Poker Room in Salem NH (closest). Do I need to bring cash or can I use my bank card to buy chips? Also, I know they have a $300 limit for $1/$2. Can I buy motr chips and keep them in my pocket so that I can keep a full stack on the table?

Thanks.

You almost definitely need to bring cash, you can keep extra chips in your pocket to top off

Practice at home games first. You don't wanna go the table for your first time and not know what you're doing.

That'd be like taking a gazelle with four broken legs and tossing the poor thing to ravenous hyenas.

You should also make sure you are aware of the rules and mechanics of a live game, both general rules and ones specific to the casino you will play in. For example, make sure you know how to properly handle your chips while betting or raising, or you may end up with an unintended action. A simple example is that you must always either verbally state a bet amount or push the appropriate amount of chips in front of you in a single motion. You may not, for example push out a stack of 10 reds ($50) then go back and try to push out another such stack intending to bet $100. That would be ruled a string bet, and your bet amount would be $50. Either push all chips at once or announce 100 verbally in this case. If you announce verbally it wouldn’t matter how you handle chips.

Another universal rule is the single chip rule. If a player puts a single chip in and that chip is large enough to be a legal raise given the current action, by rule this is a call, not a raise. For example in a 1/2 game if a player preflop puts out a single red chip, he has not raised to $5 but instead has limped for $2. Again a verbal declaration can override this rule. In the previous example a player must declare verbally an intention to raise to 5 in order for that action to be a raise.

TL/DR - as a true newbie to live play, it probably is a good idea in general to verbally declare your intended bets and raises in most cases.

Thanks. I have been playing online for a couple years and have moved from 2NL to 50NL by building my bankroll. I am not overly concerned about the poker aspect, just the etiquette and mechanics.

There are some rather large differences between live and online play. If you have a good friend that plays live play an hour or so HU with them before you go and let them spot if you have obvious tells. If you "aren't concerned about the poker aspect" you seem to have fallen for the online is tougher story. Whereas true in the sense you are much more likely to be playing against poker savvy bots live poker is more about reading the table and recognizing that if seat 1 is in the hand you should rarely bluff whereas seat 4 will overfold.

I went to the Casino about 4 times:

1. I folded a straight draw which I had pot odds to call, that I would of drawn.
(after reading elementary pot odds I'm still not sure how I missed this, nervous I think at the time)

2. I had a guy borrow money from his friend at a Charity Game for Firemen to call down my Overpair to catch me on the River(this was really fun) On the flipside I got the date I was waiting for so I was happy.

3. I never got a card the entire session in ...

4. I played my cards almost face up and apparently the field was good enough to read me and folded. There was 1 fish who drew on me and we agreed to split the pot pre-flop. Good she, hit... I chased a straight draw and finally some younger player called me down... I thought my nitty image would finally work. I think I would of benefited with all the callers from a wider calling range and catching and gambling some. In fact I know for certain I would of ... Dumb night for me.

5. Never caught a hand quit with never catching a hand or player.

I would suggest you look around for older people and beware, they tend to be nitty. Look around for the kid in the hoody and beware. Also Just have fun! I am sure if I went back I'd profit at this point in time if the cards fell right.

The best way to win I found was acting and playing natural. And having a very large stack helped. It seemed to intimidate people as the guy behind me had that and took everyone's stack LOL (in fact he said he was going to clean them all out ahead of time, and I was shocked to seem him putting a few grand into a bag of their MONEY)

At your average 1/2 NL game, it would be more like taking a gazelle with four broken legs and tossing the poor thing to six gazelles with one to three broken legs, one hyena with a fairly full belly, and one ravenous hyena.

You end up dead either way, but at least the way I described it, you have company.

The property might have an ATM on site that you can use your bank card in to get cash.
