I wish I was better at exploiting; only recently have I been able to do so with some effect in cash games (online). Tourney's are easier to exploit; because a lot of the exploits are taking advantage of position/bubble/rising blinds and not necessarily the player themselves.
In cash games the best exploit I've found is to wait for a different player to get sucked out on. Make sure you're topped up (100bb or more), and try to get in pots with that player. They know they got f'd, and they are angry and emotional. So they start betting heavy to overcome losses; except they usually aren't doing so with great hands.
I've had a lot taken from me in my first 10k cash games before I figured out one of the ways they were exploiting me. The other leak I had was that I was exploiting myself. I'd not top up; so if I lost 60bb, down to 40bb, get the nuts, go all in, get called...I'm still behind 20bb from where I begin. Whereas if I topped up each time I'm below 90bb or so; I'd have made the entire amount back (assuming the other player would also call an all in of that size).
By doing the above to myself (not topping up), I thought I was reducing my losses by way of only using one buy in and treating it like a tournament buy in that I can leave at any time, but I was actually increasing losses by not extracting appropriate value for my huge hands due to having a short stack.
