Hello everybody.

I've been playing poker since I watch the movie Rounders in 2005 and really enjoy playing the game. But the one problem I have, it's sort of love again off again type thing. I've read lots of different poker books over the years, that led to me putting in the hours to study poker and having the ideas to make money off playing poker full time. Considering before I knew about poker so idea of becoming a professional gambler was really fascinating, I'm not surprised that I'm drawn to poker and opportunities it brings to in individual. But for me the most probable reason for the love again off again, is because I'm not that great at bankroll management and I left the discipline needed to be really good at poker. See the one time that I did how to some discipline to stick to bankroll management rules I put into place - I actually did quite well, playing $5 Sit 'n' Goes.. when it comes to bankroll rules, I follow the rule Chris Ferguson followed - that you should never buy into a Sit 'n' Go for more than 5% of your bankroll. I did pretty well but after playing nearly 30 Sit 'n' Go single table tournaments, I made like a 5% return or like $7 or something like that.

I dunno it was lack of motivation of only making $7 after playing 30 Sit 'n' Goes or a combination of some really bad beats and a horrible down swing. Either way, idea of continuing to play $5 Sit and Goes was not really appealing anymore. That what you hear many micro-limit players say, when the average pot is less than a cup of coffee - well it ain't exactly motivating. Maybe playing 30 Sit 'n' Goes and making $5 wasn't motivating, I'm not sure to be honest. Right now is a good time to put in the hours, with possible money to come my way and besides I'm not playing to work anytime soon. Or maybe it's the pressure succeeding has got on, who knows.

Anyways fast forward to today,

I'm debating to myself of if I should give this another serious shot... my attempt last time, showed me it's possible. But yeah, maybe there is something that isn't letting me succeed, I'm not sure? Maybe I don't really want to make money playing poker, but rather my desire to gamble -that is what the problem is blah blah.. and my lack of discipline doesn't help matters either. I know how important bankroll management is and is probably why I didn't go bust last time?

So long story short, what could I do DIFFERENT to help my chances of success?

Deposit some money. Play poker and try to build your bankroll and learn/ study on the way up. That's the only way to do it
If you want to try and make decent money from a small bankroll then you need to take some shots at mtts and get lucky
Sit n Go's are low return, the key is to play a LOT of them but you need like 100 buyins at least, depending on the format. Plus you want to be getting good rakeback

I suppose your right - MTT tourney's are higher return but in saying that, they are higher risk than Sit n Go's tho. Maybe I'm missing something, but are you saying that skill and experience being equal, you have a higher chance of being able to make money playing MTT rather than Sit n Goes? That is why, in your opinion - MTT are better than Sit n Goes, just as long as you at least 100 buy-ins tho. But yeah, when it comes from making money from small bankroll - why is MTT tourney's better than Sit n Goes?

winning takes hours of work on a daily basis, so you have to enjoy that kind of stuff. at some point you kind of know enough to cruise-control with no study , if you find soft enough games.. but its honestly like getting an associates degree to get to that point, at least.

so... put in an associates degree worth of study time , and grind.
stop learning and chase action

keep learning and get a PH.D .. it never ends.

Here is my only way of me getting rich at poker. Starting with money. I mean, if you're a good math guy with good discipline, and don't drink rum all day, you can start with 1000 a few times and make it big. Then play 109-500MTTs. You don't grind "insane" amounts and you only need around 45k. This is how you will enjoy poker. And try sattying into monsters where series run. Have a section for "monster satties" on your graph to figure out money. But yea, poker is 10000 times better when you realize rich people are worse at PLO than broke people.
