Jude, I might be willing to make this happen in due time. But, it won't be pure NLHE if we do it. You said one of your goals is to get better at PLO this year. I also enjoy improving at games besides strictly NLHE. Maybe we can help each other get better by battling at HU 7-game/8-game or, at the very least, HA.

Back when I said Jude was running well he was running well. Just look at his graph:

We can see the EV and actual lines trending toward one another over his last ~200,000 hands, and a lot of that is probably at 25/50. Let's just say I can sympathize. It sucks to run great in low stakes games only to run like **** when you step up to bigger games. But, for so many players, it is simply the nature of the beast.

The thicker green line (actual winnings in BB) and is way below the thinner green line (EV in BB) at 400k hands. What do you mean?

You're right. I'm obviously going blind from staring at this ****ing computer screen so much. So, in fact, Jude runs poorly in AIEV. As per the discussion in the MSNL FTP Regs thread, however, that doesn't mean a lot. But, I'm not here to bash Jude in his own well thread, because I've got nothing against him. People just seemed to be talking about me a lot, so I figured I'd respond. Anyway, this whole discussion goes back to something I said a long time ago, when I suggested Jude was running hot. If he wants to post a graph of his hands up to that point (which IIRC was something like early-mid 2009, if not even earlier) to prove me wrong, he's more than welcome to. If not, I suspect that nobody cares (myself and Jude included).

It appears that these days his EV and winnings are very close in terms of BB. He has simply had the misfortune of running worse at higher stakes. He's definitely not the only one. I think, for instance, that jreezy still has the most sickening graph of any MS-HSNL player at 2p2. tcorbin and irock are also contenders. Even I am 2600 BB under AIEV for my highest stakes games. It sucks, and it's probably the #1 reason Jude isn't regularly playing even higher; it's easy to lose confidence/motivation when you run terribly at the biggest games you play.

Re: The well, oldjude.

Great well jude, thanks for doing it.

Whereabouts are you from in Ireland?

Did you go to the galway races?

Do you have any Irish poker friends? (Ones that are actually good winning online players?)

How do you find Irish people react when you tell them you play poker? People think I'm crazy for "gambling all my money away" and I just play micro stakes.

Did you over play in the eglinton in Galway?

Can I come visit your new house? (not really)

I dunno, I try to explain it to them in fairly simple terms, but most people I talk to can't seem to get their head around the fact that its not actually gambling and that you can be a long term winner. Maybe its a west of Ireland culchie thing.

Whereabouts are you from?

Meath.

Did you go to the galway races?

Not this year, but i watched it and degen'ed off a few hundo.

Unfortunately no. I don't know where they're all hiding.

By far the most common reaction i get is shock, followed by a smile of disbelief, followed by a ton of questions. But its usually a very positive reaction.

Did you over play in the eglinton in Galway?

Yes, a buddy of mine used to deal there(dave jeffares, with the beard) nice place.

Can I come visit your new house? (not really)

Maybe, I often find its people who are close-minded who dismiss it as gambling.

Re: The well, oldjude.

as for someone who is a bit ahead of the curve, would you say that there even is that much room left for games to get tougher?
I had a discussion w/ a friend (we both are pretty successful at midstakes) and our conclusion was that albeit the game itselft develops further and further, we just could not think of a future where eg. the 2/4nl games are full of players like you or sauce and everyone REALLY is solid, fighting for a few fish left.

we just didn't see the avrg midstakes reg become that good, or -in other words- having to be that good in order to beat them. highly appreciate your thoughts

Could you re-phrase the question. I don't know if you are asking whether the regs at mid-stakes right now are so good that they can't get any better, or if the only better players are not interested in playing that low? Or are you saying that if they get any tougher it will be impossible to eke out a profit?

I mean, ppl are talking about games getting tougher for as long as I've been playing (~3yrs now) and I've seen idols of my past just getting ripped apart by new regs..

I hate to pharse leatherass but he said something like "games will never be as tough as today" or something and I think there's a litte truth in that.

so, as a general question, do you think the overall level of play at midstakes will evolve as much as it did in the past and thus making it hard for someone who is beating midstakes today to beat it in ~2years?

I just don't think there is enough left to "discover" making that process possible.

I for sure disagree, if this were the case then there would not be a great difference between mid-stakes regs and 25/50+ regs, And there certainly is. I mean as time goes on and the game progresses, players will become hungrier and hungrier to gain an edge, and its still a vastly unexplored game imo by comparison to most games.

I mean just look at how much more you see overbets since isildur came up, and you often see high stakes players CiB pre ip. Mid-stakes players will imitate these new trends and the ones who can understand them best will be the ones crushing regs who refused to bend in the wind.

Re: The well, oldjude.

Hi oldjude, ive followed this thread from the start, and only now i found a reason to post..... I admire your skill set, and how aggressive yet controlled you are. The videos on leggo i really enjoyed although the audio quality did my head in lols.....

So heres my question for you,
I play 200nl SH 4-6 tables using common sense, image, position and notes to make my decisions.... My math isnt too good, i dont use any sort of math in my game but i think my game is pretty solid. What advice would you give me about using math in my game and how to use it effectively?

Is it a huge weakness to not implement it into my game? And if it is how would you start to implement and practise with it?
