Do you think it's possilbe to still have an 'ah ha' moment in poker after close to a million hands/3 years of playing?

I'm a marginal winner and have tried all kinds of things (fewer tables, shorter session, more aggression, less aggression etc) I consider myself a better player than I was 18 months ago, however the results never really change.

Also.

What sports do you follow?

3 favourite bands?

Cheers for doing this, gl for the future.
What path would you recommend a nl400 player to get to 1k?

Put in a ton of volume. If you feel inclined, get coaching from someone(look for references from friends).

Do you use adderall or other enhancement drugs?

No.

What music do you listen during playing?

Usually rock and trad.
I don't autopilot. I think most regs would be doing themselves a favour if they played less tables. And don't be afraid to experiment with weird lines.

I remember reading once you don't do much game selection?

Yes. I think this is the biggest reason i moved up in stake so fast. When i sit down to play a session i just join a bunch of waitlists and get on the 1st ones that open.

I think cork is a pretty sweet county, nice people. Or galway, excellent night-life.

HU, FWF, Sauce, and isildur. I think for 6m, irock is very very creative and tricky, same goes for stork.

I grind 3/6 and 5/10 because they are the only games that run regularly, i play 10/20 whenever its running. I'm about to buy a house so you probably won't see me at 25/50+ anytime soon.

You said you've never bumhunted, to what extent do you game select?

Like i say, i just get on waitlists and sit when they open, i never sit out when the fish does. If there is a game running with like stork, roland, derek and sauce i might just pass thats as far as i go.

Basically i fired flop since it was dry and i hoped to just get a surrender, but this guy was pretty floaty so i decided to fire turn to fold out his floats. When he ships i was like 'aw f***, oh well, guess i'll time down an fold' then as so often happens when i time down an fold, a little devil appeared on my shoulder an started telling me to look again. I just thought i had a good read on him that he was pretty good and saw me as a huge lag and would just bluff-catch with all his Qx, 8x and obv all his 6x hands, so i thought he had to have T9 or 97 or if i got unlucky he might be bluffing with the best hand, Ax or a small PP. But i turned out to be right and it felt good, the river bricking was the icing on the cake.

I would say its possible for sure. I haven't had one in a long time.

I'm a marginal winner and have tried all kinds of things (fewer tables, shorter session, more aggression, less aggression etc) I consider myself a better player than I was 18 months ago, however the results never really change.

Sorry dude . I think as long as you're leaving your mind limber and trying out different ways to improve there isn't much else you can do.

Also.

What sports do you follow?

I love horse-racing. Football is awesome, both to play and to watch. I don't follow any other sports.

Creedence, The band, cat stevens.

thanks.

I had a poker story written out but since no one has asked i guess i'll just post it.

I started at 18 when i moved in with 2 friends. We started with $5 live sng's an after the first time playing i knew i would become completely obsessed with the game. I have always become obsessed with any strategy game like chess, scrabble and any card game with a skill element, i've also always loved to gamble.

We progressed to a €20 live pub tournament every week, we played that for about 6 months before we started frequenting a card-room, Favourites, in Maynooth. That's where i started splitting my time between online and live. I would win just enough live to play online and then just lose it playing .25/.50 or shortstacking 1/2 .

I found sng's and was able to beat them right off the bat, mainly cos i was just the biggest nit on the planet, the average opponent i faced was playing about 37/10 i was playing about 15/13 . I decided i was a winning player and quit my job as a carpenter to play poker full-time, truth is i wasn't nearly ready, and i only had about a €1k BR.

I lost my BR and then decided it would be a clever move to borrow €1000 from the bank to play poker with, i did, i lost that too. I decided to swallow my pride and go back to work, i did and payed off my debt, i still played poker but stuck to sng's. I started building a roll again and got a few scores in some MTTs. I had about €10k saved up after about 7 months back at work and i was now convinced that i had turned a corner and i was good enough to play professionally.

So i quit my job again and took it very seriously. I progressed through the sng ranks quickly and was eventually playing $500 and $1K SNGS, I also started playing MTTs alot more and was holding out for a big cash. I eventually got one when i finished 4th in the wednesday 6m 100rb on ftp for i think $12k. I then started playing tournies fulltime, and in february of 08 i won both $100 re-buys pon ftp and stars, and finished 2nd in the sunday 500 on stars for $69k, on the whole it was a $100k week.

I was delighted and decided this would be a good chance to migrate to cash games. That had been my aim from the start because i knew the best in the world were cash-players and i wanted to join them. I started at 2/4, was waaay overrolled but dared not play higher cos my post-flop game was so terrible. It took a long while for me to learn to beat 2/4 and 3/6 but beat them i did. The rest i think you guys can check out on my blog. http://www.leggopoker.com/blogs/oldjude/

I have a mangiiiinnnaaaaa.

Jude, before when I asked about game selection I was mainly referring to HU since I assume you'll play anyone at midstakes 6max. Say you're playing HU (how much do you play HU?) will you play almost anyone who sits at your 10/20 table?

What times in Ireland do u find is best for HU action? (just wondrin ur opinion)
Were ur family supportive of your intention to play poker?
Finally, taking out a 1k loan to play poker is massive- how/why did u have so much faith in ur game that early?- pretty amazing.
