i have taken back my original post after some thought and think josh should be responsible for at least a small part of this scam...If he isnt it would be way to easy for anyone to just say they were hacked and be let off the hook. hopefully OP can get some of the lost funds recovered

Is it not standard for the person requesting trade to send first. Absolutely no reason to send first if your helping out someone else

nationstation, make sure your email password is secure. and make sure that no one can "hack" into your email by using the recovery email listed on your main email account, nor by guessing the answers to your email recovery questions

- 2FA wherever you can, imperative on email
- use an email address for poker stuff that you don't use for anything else and that no one knows about
- RSA wherever you can
- long, generated passwords for everything through keepass or lastpass
- have your security/recovery questions be non-guessable (e.g. use random strings wherever you can)
- standard firewall/AV stuff and never click anything stupid.
- when a hacker messages you on twitter asking you to vouch for them, don't do it!

that's all standard stuff.

depending how much money you have online you may want to strongly consider a poker only computer to minimise risk. and if you're travelling to live events, obviously be doubly careful with controlling physical access to your laptop given the stories in recent years.

Standard yet 2+2 doesn't offer 2FA. They don't even use HTTPS ffs.

- don't click on links
- if you rip someone, just say "CAVEAT EMPTOR" and it's all good

This.
And apply to NT/SK as well since they are close to non-reversable as well.

Or simply put some jeans on once a day, go in front of a cam and talk for 5sec. No big deal!

To those who say OP is owed a non-0%, you're crazy, clueless and lazy.

Not 2p2's fault that people trade millions over an unsecured forum where acc's are easily hackable. Sorry, security is a cost, it's not "free".

What's wrong with picking up a phone a calling the person?

Call me crazy but before making a transaction like this I would need to facetime or skype the person make sure everything is legit. Especially with all the funny business that goes on... If they can't confirm through facetime or skype (video). Then no deal.

Social media accounts are not a good method of authentication. The security around it was never designed to secure $K+ worth of money transfer.

If you were a bank, would you accept a twitter post to authorise a $6k transfer of money?

A skype chat, an image post of the person holding a sign saying it's him + time stamp and verification code or a digitally signed email would take minutes to use and would be much safer.

I guess people here win or lose $6k in a pot daily so it's not a big deal for them probably but this story of people getting scammed because they use internet site accounts as authentication happens very often.

Also, you do realize that many banks use email as a form of authentication, right? That isn't any more secure than twitter.

I might, actually. Although I would call the person or ask for a video footage as well, because a photo is easily photoshopped.

And they definitely should not use email as authentication. That's a security risk right there.

If he uses these forms of communication as a medium for a marketplace then he has an obligation to secure them. I don't think he uses 2+2 much if at all so if it was just that I'd say he's not responsible but he's actively using his twitter and uses it for business so he should be responsible for not securing that. Obviously no way to get him to help any though and I doubt people in the community will stop doing business with him over this even though they all should
