Reposting this here because I didn't see there was a 2013 thread now. Since i first posted this in the 2012 thread ive been told by RTR the changes will come into effect January 7 although SJ themselves were more non-committal and vague when I emailed them.
Email from raketherake
Quote:
Hi,
A few of you have asked why the exclusive races at Stan James were reduced from 2 x $10,000 to 2 x $5,000 this month
There are a couple of things to note:
1) Although the races were reduced by $10,000, RTR players are now eligible for the $10,000 in races that SJ offer to all players. This was not possible before
Their $10k in races can be found here: http://www.stanjames.com/UK/541/poker#action=podiumcage
Our $10k can be found here http://www.raketherake.com/leaderboa...es-race-1-1561
And here http://www.raketherake.com/leaderboa...es-race-2-1562
2) The reason our race was reduced to $10,000 is as follows. Microgaming decided that too many SJ players were winning players and so have punished SJ by reducing the number of tables that players can multi-table at any one time to 4.
In turn this meant that SJ had to lower their marketing spend to compensate for the reduction in rake and revenue that they forecast.
All in all the $20,000 is still on the table, but this month you have to compete against Joe Public for $10k of it.
|
Posting this as a heads up for others. It seems absurd to me but it sounds like microgaming is forcing SJ to do this.

Dear xxxxxxxxx,
Thank you for your recent email.
I'm afraid this is something that was going to be brought into affect but I can't confirm the dates as yet, and will have to check this with the Poker manager tomorrow.
Unfortunately this is not a Stan James decision and not something we have had any control over as it was brought it by Micro Gaming to protect their other skins. As stated I would need to check the dates of this with the Poker Manager and confirm if this is something that will defiantly be brought into place.
If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
|
I wrote back asking some questions and asking if they were doing anything to try and stop these changes that will hurt their bottom line and got:
Quote:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxx,
Thank you for your recent email.
Unfortunately it's not as straight forward as that, there are other reasons why MG have made this decision on our tables. Please note, we won't be able to give you the number requested I'm afraid, this is not even something Micro Gaming would release to ourselves.
I believe we are in talks with them and we will get back to you with the dates it will come into affect, if this is indeed the road that we'll have to go down.
If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
|
I knew I wouldn't get it but the number referred to there was me asking to see proof of which skins had the most winners and losers or some sort of data to prove that limiting tables would actually help the bottom line of SJ or microgaming.
This email suggested that there are other roads they might go down (whatever that means) so I wrote once more to ask if the change had been decided on yet and got back:
Quote:
Dear xxxxxxxxxxx,
Thank you for your recent email.
Not at present no, we will have to speak to the Poker manager tomorrow.
If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
|
Despite conflicting messages it seems clear they are making this change. Seems crazy to me but there's not much I can do about it.

I mean you never really know. They could operate their poker site at arms length and have them incorporated separately but i doubt that's the case. I'm just posting as a heads up to others.
today's email clarifies yesterday's opaque responses. Four table max is coming in three days. Bye bye SJ:
Quote:
Hi,
Please note that from Monday 7th January, StanJames.com Poker will be restricting all cash game play to a maximum of 4 (four) concurrent tables at any one time.
Whilst we understand that this may have an impact on your preferred poker play, as a responsible poker operator we are fully committed to providing a balanced poker ecology – i.e. a good mix of experienced and recreational players – offering a game and level of play for everyone.
All other formats – Multi-tournaments, Sit’n’Go Tournaments etc will remain unaffected by this action.
In addition, we will still be offering our full range of promotions and our top level customer service as well as developing a number of new offers and features over the coming months.
Once again, we apologise if this action has a negative impact on your poker experience at Stan James, but hope that the high level of overall service we provide will see you continuing to visit out tables in 2013.
If you have any queries or need any help please contact our egaming support team via live chat or via email poker@stanjames.com
Kind regards,
Stan James Poker Team

Because they don't mention stakes I'm assuming it means no more than 4 cash tables at once no matter what the stakes are

Re: ***The OFFICIAL 2013 Microgaming Regulars Thread***
I tough it was 4tables total incl tournaments. That would be a disaster! Still not good for the casual grinder, and iam sure they gonna lose alot traffic.
Anyway gl 2013 guys!

RaisyDaisy? Why? Always figured him a very strong player, gives action to lots of regs etc
TomDeLonge is a 100x the scumbag at higher limits-hnruns regs/grims the **** out of everyone/talks non stop smack in chat to regs and fish alike.
On the subject of scummy regs add Robert12345 to that list the motherfukn piece of ****.
Oh we started the new 2013 thread off on a very positive tone
