I couldn't imagine trading with anyone in this thread without really knowing them for ages. Trading with Lion (a guy I've posted my doubts about in the past...) was looking for trouble imo.

yea what a cluster fk this is. i complete what i think is a legit money trade (got money sent first, then i send the money) and now if ftp reverses their transfer and eurolinx doesn't (according to the live chat representative i talked to, they do not reverse player to player transfers) then i'm the one who gets fked and i didnt even do anything wrong.

so bs.

the deal was, i ship 5k on fulltilt to get 5k on my mrmalzanini on pokerstars, but money didnt arrived
I know you wrote an explanation but it was confusing. I am not involved with any of the party but I am def intrigued how the hell the scam worked.

You sent 5k to WiltOnTilt because you thought Lion was WiltOnTilt. Ok. So I will now assume you exchanged PMs with Lion.

WiltOnTilt received 5k from an account called BIENJOUE1. During this time frame, Lion PMed him and told him to xfer to ScarletPanda on Eurolinx.

Wow, everything makes sense now after I typed it all out and I gotta give Lion credit for such a clever trick. I am obviously not in favor of it.

So what happened was Lion PMed you and the real WiltOnTilt at the same time asking you to send 5k to WiltOnTilt on FTP and asking WiltOnTilt to send 5.3k to ScarletPanda. Since the real WiltOnTilt received his funds on FTP, he then xfer his Eurolinx moneys to the scammer.

In the mean time, you sit there wondering why your PokerStars moneys haven't arrived even though you sent. Then you saw WiltOnTilt quoting a trade with Lion and realized you both been played.

Wow. Sick plan and execution.

Yea SlowHabit got it right. Here's what I sent to Mike Haven with a few extra details of how it got executed:

Quote:
Here's a recap of how we closed the loop:

lion contacted me and lasso at the same time

lion set up a trade to give his stars for lasso's ftp

at the same time lion set up a trade with me. "his" ftp for my eurolinx

lion told lasso that his screen name on ftp is wiltontilt. lasso never did any searches on 2p2 for wiltontilt and just assumed that some screen name named Lion was me.

i received the funds from BIENJOUE1 (lasso) and Lion acts like the $ came from him. Lion asks lasso to send him the conformation email. Lion then sends me the conf email as proof that Lion is BIENJOUE1.

I receive the emails and check them against the automated emails FTP sends me and see the $ in my ftp account. I send the money on eurolinx.

Lion never sends the money on stars to lasso.

so i've lost no money, lion is +5k on eurolinx and lasso is -5k on ftp.

the ****ty part (for me) is now if ftp reverses lasso's transfer and then i'm out 5k there.

through talking with eurolinx, they are investigating but they said it's their policy to not reverse p2p transfers.

Hope that clears things up
Quite a dirty plan/execution. I'm going to contact eurolinx and point them to this thread.

Eurolinx is already not in very good graces with 2+2'ers given the recent problems with cashouts. I hope they do the right thing and return the money to my eurolinx account so I can return the money to lasso on FTP.

LassoThatDonkey = Lion ?
Lasso posted in the "regular" xfer thread, advertising he had the kind of funds Wilt wanted.

At first, I suspected Lion = Lasso, that's why I asked Wilt to confirm Lion's announcement of a successful trade and share the screen names, which I noticed matched one Lasso had claimed was his.

There's nothing more to it, except Lasso/Wilt didn't search and see Lion was shady and they happened to be able to trade large amounts the same day.

Yeah, this is a classic middleman scam -- there's actually a technical name for it, but i forget what it is...but the gist of it is that the scammer is simultaneously holding conversations with each one of you pretending to be the other guy.

They're really really hard to spot / stop when executed properly b/c, as you unfortunately discovered, everything *looks* legit to one participant: from Wilt's perspective, he took every precaution one could expect: and he did not send first.

As far as what to do now, we absolutely MUST make an example of this guy, imo. I'm presuming that all participants are American, and if that's the case, Lion should be pretty nervous right now. 2p2 should be able to provide his IP address (maybe even every IP he's ever logged in from)...unless he's been exceptionally careful to hide his tracks since he registered, you can use that info to subpeona his ISP for his personal info. Look at Cornell Fiji / Steven Ware...that guy's rep is F'd for life thanks to http://www.stevenwareisathief.com/ Show this guy that they messed w/ the wrong MF'er.

i m the one who lost 5k!

i´m just new on 2+2, i´m from germany, and yes i´m not that good in english.

but i talked a lot wit wiltontilt now, said him my real nam, email, swas sitting down on table on fulltilt, just to show him, that its me. my accounts on fulltilt (bienjoue1) and pokerstars (mrmalzanini) are using every day.
and i would even meet wilt now in vegas if he want to be true, that im the the ****** scammer.

i´m really pissed, because i want to play the main event in a few days, and just tried to get my money of from my account, to get cash at the atm...

no, they're not too hard to spot if you follow the suggestions of searching every screen name on 2+2 and Google as well as asking them to sit with funds at a table and chat.

Here's some tips that help me find scum...

no he didn't; see above.

I think this thread should be for transfers between friends, not just some random guy who happens to PM you. Everybody should be required to post their screen names and if they don't "belong" here then their post should be deleted and any trade requests denied, otherwise y'all might as well go back to The Zoo trade thread, which is at least patrolled fairly regularly.

Actually this scam pops up every so often. The way to counter this scam is to talk to the person at the poker table. In this case, ask that person at the table for his 2+2 name and his eurolinx name.

This thread is getting out of control. Stop posting in this thread if you're not a recognizable member of the HSNL community. I'm trying to delete these as often as I can but sometimes I don't check 2p2 for a day or two and sometimes I skim over one, so don't assume that because a post hasn't been deleted the poster is trustworthy. Post your screennames when you post asking for swaps. Don't trade with people who don't post their screennames. And to reiterate my first post in this thread:

For the sums of money we're going to be dealing with in HSNL, my personal advice is simple: deal only with people you already know and send only to account names you already recognize. Verify their identity by getting in touch with them through multiple channels: 2p2, aim, phone, etc. If you choose to deal with relative unknowns who contact you based on your posts in this thread, be careful. Even if they send first you are not 100% in the clear. If it turns out that the money transferred to you was stolen, some sites will take it back.

I know nobody wants to read another post about a scammer but it just happened to me as well: Post in the transfer thread and BBV-post

cliffnotes:
- traded with Speedlimits, ~4k posts, registered 2006: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/members/46498/
- winning player, done several transfers before
- real name: Brett Mrozowski

- he scammed me for 3k.

Any help / recommendations appreciated.

This thread is hilarious, It's supposed to be for the HSNL community and it's full of ******s trying to [be part of HSNL] or trying to say they are legit enough to make trades here.

IKE,

It's really not hard dude, just make a list of the guys that are part of HSNL/you do want posting/trading in this thread, then anyone else who posts [who isn't on the list] gets temp banned.

But i'll just sit back and continue to watch, this thread is giving me some good laughs.

IMO you need to set bright-line rules for just who is and is not allowed to post here; you shouldn't act surprised when it derails because because posters are supposed to police themselves. What is the HSNL "community" anyway? I don't even know if I'm part of it. DO I play HSNL? Yes. Have I been around 2p2 forever? Yes. Do other 2p2ers know who I am IRL? Some. But I really don't post much in HSNL even if people recognize my screename. So imho I think you need to lay out bright-line rules re: who this thread is for (and any other rules you want followed; i.e. the posting of your poker account screenames if you want to transfer) rather than counting on posters to know what "recognizable" means. Or you can go the EDF route and have people apply for permission to post here.

Lion didn't post here until the trade was complete; he simply PM'd Wilt, who had requested a trade which he was able to slip in the middle of.

So, permission to post ITT, while helpful, would only have prevented this particular scam if Lion had replied to Wilt's request with Lasso's FTP name. At that point, hopefully, Wilt would've done a search and noticed Lasso requested a trade with the same name, a definite red flag. Further searching of Lion's name would've found mention of him not being a particularly trustworthy fella.

Can I post here? I've done a decent share of large xfers and have vouches.

Anyway, I'm going to do a 20-35k bank wire transfer to a friend for him to withdraw and take to the WSOP.

I will sell the extra (~15K) for FTP at markup (best offer, at least 10%, no negotiations). PM me within the next 12 hours or so because after that is when my wire will already be sent.
