I know this is old, but its a great thread and I hope more people read it.

Everyone is posting from the perspective of the berrating player, or the non glass tapping player. Well i was the fish that just loved poker and loved to gamble, untill one day in a online poker room. The way this dude fliped out and told me what i was doing wrong inspired me to find all the information I can about poker.

Theres much truth to this thread, because either i stoped playing or I had to get better. Im also guilty of table talk in casinos about poker knowledge. Not to the extent of some but its mild enough to have people wondering if theres more to the game.

Since reading all the threads and post about not schooling our clients I've but all eliminated this talk.

a poker player should speak as much about poker strategy as a bj dealer speaks about bj strategy. its not that they say nothing, its just that everything they say is polite and, more importantly, dead wrong.

a poker player should berate a loser as much as a bj dealer berates a loser...that is, NEVER!

the only time a pro should call out a loser is when the loser is so belligerent that despite there losing they are still bad for the game. i do this sometimes when one fish is berating other fish and getting rid of him or shutting him up is good for the game. the thing about these constant bitching, throwing cards, tilt monkees is they are the type who will stay longer if you tell them they are idiots so sometimes its a win/win.

Adz, as much as you guys seem to hate him, at least continues to take on most people and play in spots where I think he is an underdog and still continues to win. Not a huge bumhunter like a good chunk of people playing 2KNL+.

Twenty years ago I was a fish. One day a very good player berated my 7-2 offsuit that won and I got to thinking... was there a better way to play? Picked up a copy of Card Player, ordered some poker books.

Instead of encouraging bad play that player caused me to become a good player.

4 years later and the same thing is still going on...the high limit hold 'em players still do this to 8superpoker...the play goes on until 8superpoker sits out or leaves, then its insta-sit out and leave...

just talk about sports, sex and drugs - and never mock a fish and tell him an obv bad play was a good 1 and you'll be fine

in fact, most REAL fish def like some competitive banter - not some ****boy with a +EV hat on acting like the fish's play was correct when it clearly wasn't and telling them "ah, that's just a cooler, sorry" - imo, that is worse than anything

This is completely dependent on the type of fish. Some are so gullible that they actually do think you defending them means that their play wasn't that bad and gives them a sense of validation. I would even guess that more of them are gullible than or not. I think just because you may be astute enough to understand what is going on, it doesn't necessarily mean that a bunch of fish are going to be keen enough o what's actually going on. If they knew it was going on, they'd likely no longer be fish.

Just for the record, I find it super important to no speak about strategy at the table and berate other regs when they do it.

Against the donks who like to trash talk, it's on between me and them, I know they want to get wrapped up in it with someone, and I want that someone to be me.

Yes a lot of the high stakes fish are very very successful in other aspects of life. They are not dumb people and can put things together. On the other hand, they likely have spent very little time thinking about poker theory or doing equity simulations. We have a big edge because we have put in the work to learn these things and they have not. Why help someone play better when at the same time you can just be nice and friendly? Let the fish do what they came to do, to have a good time, with the hope at winning big.

that reminds me of the first time i played 5/10 nl at borgata in probably 2007 or 2008 and so many regs were just dicks to me for no reason. then after playing with them for a while they tried being nice to me probably so i'd softplay them.

i do laugh to myself when i see these same regs now short stacking 2/5 nl or 1/2 nl and even better trying to play plo and playing horribly.

im super nice to the rookies and im a super dick to the regs lol
