Villain sat down about 20 mins ago. Early 20s white male, seems quite passive. Limping and calling a lot but haven’t seen him get out of line, but could have the potential to over value hands.

This hand:
Effective stacks $280

$1/$3 game
Hero open UTG with J J to $13
5 callers.

Flop ($60)
3 3 2

Hero bets $40, only villain calls.

Turn ($140)
9

Hero bets $100, villain shoves for $227

Hero?

I hate the preflop result (which is fairly standard in most games I play in), so I limp in and evaluate (mostly to limp/reraise).

That's one hell of a rake if pot is $60 and you got 5 callers to a $13 raise. I'm going to assume you meant it went 5ways and take $60 at face value.

To me postflop is a nightmare situation where we have a small SPR of 4.5 where anyone can make us play for stacks at any time, and yet we offered everyone amazing IO of 26+:1 preflop, and are playing postflop OOP to boot. If you're awesome at these spots, then fine. I am not awesome in these spots, thus why I do something different preflop.

The higher and less vulnerable our overpair, the more I might check this flop and see what happens. But with JJ (which is much more vulnerable than AA) I'm fine with a bet. I would probably go much smaller though as we're really only trying to protect against random overcards, so no need to go more than a 1/2 PSB, imo.

Where did Villain call from? The earlier he called from, the more massively strong this is with the world still to react behind him.

If betting the turn, again our bet seems pretty large. What are we targetting?

As played, it's a stoopid spot that we should be aware was coming as soon as we raised preflop (so I'm assuming we were prepared / planned for it). I probably lean to a fold here, but you could argue we're committed and getting a good enough price against an unknown.

gg asks a very important question: where in the list of callers is the villain?

The earlier he called, the more likely he has a pocket pair(like the nightmare 99) and the later he called the more likely something like A3 suited.

What I don't like about the hand is that the pot got bloated way too fast and that we did it playing OOP.

Frankly, for me, there is too much nuance missing. However, for what's there, it's looking like a fold.

I agree I sized the turn a little big. My main reasoning was I was setting up getting stacks in on the river against a worse overpair.

I agree though the sizing is an error

Your sizing is too big post. What hands are you hoping call the 40? A2? Based on the 5 callers it sounds like the table is station heavy pre, lots of X3 represented here. I would bet like 25 or even 20 into 60, enough for 55s to call. Turn is equally bad sizing. He's got 227 behind and you're committing him on 3-3-2-9r? What does he call with? What does he raise with? I think as played its a crying call and hope he has 4-5.

I did the exact same thing to be fair the other day: 3-bet 88 pre over an EP opener who in hindsight was a really good player, Flop QQ3, he checks, I bet ~2/3rds - 4/5ths pot, he just calls, turn is a blank, he checks, I hang myself with another massive bet, he jams, I cry, of course he has AQo.

If you are getting five callers at $13Â…Â…open bigger. As played check the flop.

A lot of OMCs wont 3bet four people when they have QQ. A lot of loose passive players will play 34 offsuit at those stakes. Some guys its a way to pass time, they did not come to fold hands. If they are suited or close to being close together they will play the hand the more multiway it gets.
This is not a spot a solver can help you with.
