so i predicted this would happen a few weeks ago. i have a small problem with a moderator on this site who has a personal vendetta against me and is now abusing his power to extract revenge. i came into this forum in search of a platform to lodge a complaint and try to rectify the situation, but found nothing. i have sent a PM to mat, but who knows whether or not/how long it'll take for him to get back to me.

moderator "27offsuit" has a habit of following me around threads and insulting me, and now has "contained" (whatever that means) and threatened to ban me stemming from a short back and forth that we had in a thread that is primarily made for trolling (literally, thebayareabeast appreciation thread in OOT, also the only OOT thread i post in anymore). here are just a couple examples of posts he has directed towards me that i think are clearly out of line for a regular poster, much less for a moderator of the site-

i've never personally insulted him on this level, i think he is clearly overstepping some boundaries, and i want it to stop.

I also can't think of one single thread in OOT you have posted in in the last year that you haven't derailed with your petty insults and arguments. Literally every one. That is why you are contained, because you can't control yourself. Like I said yesterday, I am no authority on good posting, but I know bad posting when I see it.

the most recent exchange with natamus was all of about 3 or 4 posts (edit: given recent events in that thread, i thought it was a pretty solid spot to troll him, tbh). hardly a tedious back and forth derail.

i completely ignore most of the people who address me, and i had a civil back and forth with howard about how to improve my posting because we've met IRL, and i like howard.

then 27 jumps in to roll around in the mud and levy a bunch of threats because he wants to be a big man

Just my two cents. I think the reference was to the Beast thread, where I had criticized his posting because he got in a mild personal duel with Natamus. The goal of my criticism of him was to gently encourage him to post better. I had no intention of getting him contained.

You’re the mod and can do as you wish, obviously.

I actually think it’s an interesting question as to when containment or banning yields better threads. That seems to me to be the only relevant question. I don’t know if you are taking rep’s comments personally but I would contend that mods should not do so.

it's absurd too because natamus and babs' last spat resulted in babs eating a perma', and it's partially because of me that he's even back. i always speak out when somebody crosses the line (jmakin, neil s, etc), and i've never been admonished for being wrong about it. 27o is clearly out of line here

Rep is an annoying insect. There are two ways to deal with one. Ignore it, and hope it will go away, or swat it.

Contained within OOT, to the extent he wants to post in OOT, seems fair enough to me. He's swatted but not killed. Or, like my girlfriend does, gently cupped in hand and put out the window.

Confine him to politics would be good also.

I think my reaction is governed by my ideas of what is good about 2p2. It should be entertaining and provocative without being boring. And I’ll rarely if ever react out of my feelings being hurt, but I understand that others can and do react this way.

My underlying view of +rep is that he can be and is both provocative and entertaining, but becomes boring when he turns things into personal duels, and he has little or no regard for the fact that others can and do get their feelings hurt.

I also have the view that mods should take a light touch rather than a heavy one, and that social pressure does as good or better at improving post quality.

I always thought it was rep's constant infusion of politics whenever he possibly had the chance that was the most irritating

I think the problem here is you and the thread regs have a different definition of trolling.

Being "angry, young, liberal, white man in the South" might be considered good trolling elsewhere, but in OOT we strive to be better than schoolyard insults.
