I am fairly certain most pictures posted here are already on the internet. Posting pictures, in almost every case, that are of people with clothing on seems fine to me. If the comments are inappropriate then they should likely go.

I *think* the point he's trying to make is that posting a picture of someone in a bikini is not, in and of itself, a problem, but that posting it in a thread to make fun of the pictured person, and/or objectify her is. That wasn't phrased very well, though, so I'm not sure I parsed it appropriately.

The title of the thread was "The Ultimate Butterface Competition." Did he think people were posting photos of women to that thread to discuss their contributions to science and literature?

I don't personally like that at all. I would never post in such a thread. I would never allow a thread like that in forums that I mod.

If you have known my modding style over the years it is clear that I often protect the underdog and that I do not allow the ridicule of others if it is inappropriate. It just annoyed me a bit that we went back to a thread several years old. And in that forum at that time they did allow cringe worthy stuff. Did I like it? No! I guess my comments can be somewhat attributed to my disgust at the new "cancel culture".

Have there been threads like that in recent years? It seems to me it was a one off but the forum was portrayed as a horrible place where this type of thread is commonplace.

Yes I mentioned it before the discussion of the VR post. I had never seen this poster before and I did like the name. It was more of a compliment at the time and there weren't any posts that would have caused a reason to troll Einstein2.

In this post you ignore the context I gave (replying to a woman's complaint about a thread that dehumanizes women). Maybe it's you who should give this type of posting a rest. Anyway my point is, in that context, some of the wording you chose is loaded and not a great look. That may seem petty, but I think it's important.
