Did 2+2 send an email out to everyone notifying that the forums are back up? If not this might be helpful particularly for those that have multiple email accounts and aren't sure which one they used.

P.S.
If you guys did send out a notification I didn't get one and I'm filing a a suit for prejudice

I dont suppose some sort of IP verification will be possible or some other method for those of us having this email issue?

Hmm... Using emails as the only source of identification is just as bad and slightly less bad as using previous passwords. So for us who no longer have access to our old email addresses - not only we cannot restore our account, but someone else, who is now in control of our email (not necessarily via fraudulent methods) can hijack our identity.

The next coming week is going to be a headache (for all the mods/admins) and I hope the one mod Ive had a conversation with can also help me in that regard. It's a shame but hopefully its a solution.

Id have np faxing a copy of ID or whatever to Mat if he found that sufficient. Hopefully more solutions become available. It's just a big mess and alot of people are going to be in this situation. =(

O., see my post about this in Pub — that sounds like a browser dropdown, asking you which password you want to change in its memory. I get that dropdown every time in firefox every time I change a password; chrome handles it differently but atm I forget the details.

Anyone have reason to believe that twelve characters, random (upper/lower/numbers/symbols) isn't good enough?

I agree. The whole method of password resetting is just weird. Who is not to say that whoever "may" have hijacked an account didn't reset the email address as well.

This is actually something that was investigated and it does not appear that he changed anybody's email address.

They could just look for the "Two Plus Two Forum Outage" email that was sent a couple of weeks ago.

I've been replying individually to people who don't remember their email with the following:

"I'm very sorry, but without being able to verify your identity, your only option is to make a new account. If you find yourself in Las Vegas, we can take a copy of your identification and allow access at that time. We're also looking at other potential solutions, but have nothing at this time."

There's more people in this situation than I expected and will now be linking them to this thread and this post, specifically.

While there may be other ways to verify identity, the only other way to go for now is if you can verify your identity in some way to a moderator. And if that mod is willing to vouch for you, they will send me a pm.

In some cases people aren't receiving the pw reset emails. AOL users, for example. I'll verify these manually for now.

with so many people in this situation, we'd obviously like to help people verify their identities, but in these first few days of coming back there's just not enough manpower to make it happen quickly

It's interesting that he correctly used the personal third person singular he to denote a person whose sex is (presumably) unknown?
