In this case, asking for a forum userid and sending email might be enough. Rather than making someone go through 8 possible email ids trying to guess which one was in use for 2+2, just take the 2+2 userid and send the mail to whatever email ID you have for 'em.

In my case, I'm pretty sure I know what my email address on 2+2 was, and when I provide it the software says it's sending me mail, but I never get it on AOL. And it doesn't show up in the spam folder. Perhaps AOL is blocking it somewhere upstream and refusing to play well with the new 2+2? They're sorta famous for blocking email from major sites when they get too much mail or mail which looks spammy--they've turned off entire universities and large ISP's before.

I had this same exact problem. Tried getting the reset to send me the email four times, no luck. Nothing in spam folder, inbox, nothing. I've also had a similar issue with another vbulletin forum. I created an account there, it said it sent me the verification email and I didn't get it in my inbox or spam folder. idk if it's an issue with just aol or aol and vbulletin, no idea.

In my case here, I sent Mat an email from my email address linked to this account and he reset the password for me.

Thanks Mat!

Come to think of it, I've had that issue on another forum as well. But this other one was phpBB.

I think aol just sucks ass maybe.

If you like, you can email me your user name and email address and I can at least see if they match. My email address is in my profile.

Why not allow people to simply fax/e-mail in their ID? This seems like the most practical possible fix. Only allowing people to reactivate if they come visit you in person in Vegas is really ridiculous.

Also allow greens to verify/vouch for the identity of people, that's a really good idea I think. Just make sure mods are only doing this for people they are 100% sure of and not abusing it.

we don't collect any personal info upon registration, so a faxed id doesn't give me anything. i would need to match the face to the photo.

video skype might be a solution?

I had updated all my gimmick accounts' e-mails to legitimate, readable-by-me addresses in the week before the hack.

Strangely, though, I only received 28 of the April 26th we've-been-hacked e-mails, so I wondered whether the other accounts had been lost or the e-mail change had been ineffective or something.

I did just log into one of those that didn't receive the e-mail, though, and the whole deal worked — the e-mail change had taken, I just never got the notification. So it seems I won't be requesting reinstatement of [insert large number] accounts whose e-mails don't work.

I must have missed this. The email I used to set up my original account it no longer active. I know no one on this forum in real life.

I'm in that same boat. I no longer have access to the email I used when I registered. I can provide details of a PM conversation I had with a green user if you can use that for verification.
