Good a time as any to learn a new bit of BBCode:

noparse

When you wrap something with the [noparse] tag then you can put in instructions about how to use BBCode without worrying that it will actually get parsed.

In this case, Prax, you could have written this

[noparse][spoil]stuff you want hidden[/spoil][/noparse]

which would have been expressed as

[spoil]stuff you want hidden[/spoil]

to explain how to use the [spoil] tag, without ever actually getting a spoiler by mistake

Thanks for this. Under things I wish they would give us, is a stickied thread with some of these basics - or a link to someplace that gives it to us. Last time I worked on a forum - my own - we were still using html. (I'm old.)

So - got a link?

One more vote for more threads per page. The more the better. Threads disappear off the front page way too quickly.

Hyperlinks in the WYSIWYG editor may be a little tricky the first time you do it.
Hi StevieG - Where is the WYSIWYG editor?

Quote:
If you use the icon, you will get a prompt for the link URL, just like now, but no prompt for the link text.
What icon? Where is the icon?

Quote:
Instead it just drops that URL as linked text into the WYSIWYG area.
Since I don't know how to find the WYSIWYG area, the quoted statement is frustrating to me.

Quote:
You can then edit the link text to replace the URL with more friendly text.
Why would I want to do that, assuming I could even find the URL?

Quote:
Alternately, just highlight some existing text in the WYSIWYG area, then choose the link button.
I (obviously) do not understand.

I want to post a URL reference to a thread (or post). There's obviously a way to do this, since I got to this very thread by clicking on a URL reference. All I need is like a template and knowing where to get the reference number for a thread (or post). Where can I find what I need?

Quote:
After you type the URL into the prompt, your highlighted text is now a link.
I lack the URL and I don't know where the prompt is located.

On my own, I figured out how to create URLs using the old software. I am evidently unable to figure it out on my own using vB.

Help! Please!

Buzz

In the reply form, you have an editing "widget" where you type in your response.

There are a bunch of smilies at the bottom of the widget, and more icons at the top (well, if you are using the quick reply, you only see a few at the top and no smilies at the bottom, but you have the icon we care about, keep reading).

Find the one that looks like the world and the link of a chain,

Hit that icon. You will see a popup prompt asking you for the URL target of the link, defaulting to http://

If you were to enter http://www.google.com there, then when you hit the OK button, you will get the following to appear in the editing area of the widget.

[URL="http://www.google.com"]http://www.google.com[/URL]

And judging from the expert way you divided up the quote in your post, I think you can take it from there.

OK, now if you want the WYSIWYG editor (where my comments on highlighted stuff make sense) then go to the Eidt Options part of My 2+2, and under Miscellaneous options at the bottom, switch from Standard Editor to Enhanced Editor - Full WYSIWYG.

I've got to log back on if I'm inactive for, say, 3 minutes it seems. Is there any way to extend this?

Use the "Remember Me" checkbox when you login, it should keep your login more persistent.

There should be one main thread in ATF with all the scripts that have been made for vB.

You won't be able to see nested quotes. The multiquote feature allows you to grab quotes from more than one post at a time however. From there you can cut and paste to nest them if you would like.

Do you see the icon that looks like "+, a quote with a plus mark? Hit it for every post you want to quote.

Each post where you hit the multi-quote icon will go red. You can deselect it by clicking it again.

When you hit reply or quote, you should see the selected quotes in the edit form of the reply page when it appears.

i liked the new software as it allowed me to access 2+2 from my treo in mobile browsing theme.

now i got an iphone and it forces me to browse in the regular theme, which is slower. is there a way to select a separate theme for iphone devices? the reason i ask is that not everyone will want to go back to WAP with their iphone. it may be just me.

thanks in advance
