Mat, honestly, I can't believe you're buying this guy's line.

I'll just be parroting others here probably, but here's my take from someone who, for better or worse, has had a pivotal role in the development and eventual end to the main thread.

Thebayareabeast (currently under the Nimadamus handle) has had a long and shady history on multiple sports betting forums, ALL of which he has been banned from multiple times. The main one, and the one I believe he started out on, was sbrforums, where he got in a handicapping contest with another user and ended up welching and disappearing on their $500 (may have the amount wrong) bet. His bets on here he has shown himself to be an extreme pain in the ass to deal with, welched on an escrow once and can take weeks/months to pay a debt.

Just recently he has been begging to come back and post so that thread is not just a bunch of people "beating up on someone" although I think it's cute he's phrasing it that way. He has sent me multiple threats, through PM and facebook. He has threatened to come down to where I work. Currently he's trying to sell sports betting advice on his twitter handle "Nimadamus" where he has 7,000 fake twitter followers and a supposed "system" which seems to be what he always does, take random massive favorites and plunk down a ton of units on them. But whatever.

What Beast does not understand is that slander/libel/whatever is not slander if the things you're saying are true, or have a reasonable foundation in truth. Anything I have ever posted about him has been either from him directly under one of his numerous accounts on other forums, or by something that was told to me. I even made the disclaimer that information I divulged was told to me by an anonymous family friend and I didn't know the veracity of it. It seemed to be true though, given his reaction.

Anyway, a few months back I got kinda sick of his behavior towards me and others, and I sent his sister an email. I'll even post the contents here if needed, but basically I just told her I was a little concerned about him and he's spent the last few months in Reno, NV, and has been trying to make it as a sports bettor out there and that he may have some gambling debt/issues. That was it. He has made this out like it's completely ruined his life, but from what I hear, his family basically knew all this about him anyway. Any life consequences he's suffered as a result of that thread (I'd say basically 0 except embarrassment) are 100% his own doing, no one else's. He has multiple severe delusions, one of which is that thread is the cause of all his life problems. It isn't. He is the problem.

That said if you wanna stifle all talk of Beast on this entire forum that's pretty much your only option at this point, or just unlocking the thread/allowing another to be created, because this thing has morphed into a community of its own by now. LKJ, El Diablo, Larry, Gregorio, 99, and all the other thread regs I consider friends and it's mostly because of this years long saga. Cutting it off now is really lame and unnecessary and against the spirit of the forum.

That's all I have to say about it really.

One last thing I forgot, I 100% think he should be reinstated and allowed to post in THAT THREAD ONLY so he can at least defend himself from whatever he thinks is untrue that's being said. That's only fair.

Definitely some merit to this. I'd have a hard time with there being a thread in TF&D, for example, if he wasn't permitted to respond to the allegations.

Of course if he was permitted to under certain restrictions and then couldn't abide by them, that would be his own fault and I wouldn't be concerned if he was unable to respond after that.

I was going to say something like this too. Odd as it may seem, on some level it's like a spinoff show from the OOT LC thread. Some overlapping characters, some not, but it did become its own smaller community that spoke its own language, even if mostly just based on things at least tangentially related to the original Babs thread. Kind of a bummer if it gets forcibly broken up; like jmakin, I like a significant majority of the thread regs and like shooting the **** with them. I realize that the regular LC thread will still be around, but meh.

Mostly was thinking that if we allowed a new thread in a forum that was more appropriate, I think it would be best to give that (he could post only in that thread) one more try.

Only Alobar would have an accurate count of the number of times it has been tried. I'm not good with numbers and math, seems like it has been quite a few.

Unfortunately for all concerned a Beast is pretty much a walking, talking perpetual TOS violation.
