This reminds me, I ran this up the flagpole recently with MEbenhoe and Clark for SE, both were lukewarm to indifferent but others said they would contribute in it.

FWIW I think it's a good idea for OOT as well, or any other heavily-trafficked forum with some semblance of community...

...would be a good place for blog posts, and allow for harsher penalties for starting a new thread with a blog post.

Edit to add: If so, I hope oT is correct. Should mean less "I can't function as an adult, please help" or "I'm too lazy to go to Google" type threads, which I think we would all appreciate.

Also I meant to mention, there is virtually no "risk" associated with a thread like this. If nobody wants it, it sinks. On the other hand, it could be successful and be a catch-all for random non-thread-worthy discussion. I read the one in SSNL from time to time and it can be interesting, but also I just skim the first part of each post and if it's a tangent I'm not interested in (such tangents are usually "what should I do with my life" or "I have an issue with my girlfriend, please help") I just move on to the next one.

I'm not sure what the counterargument is to this.

this is just a ploy by the "oot as in shoot" lobby. everyone knows the thread would end up being called the "other other other topic thread" (i.e. "OOOT thread"), which would devastatingly undermine the "oh-oh-tee" constituency, because no one wants to say "oh-oh-oh-tee."

This works well in all the forums I use that runs this type of thread.

If this idea doesn't fly, there should at least be a monthly table/bottle service thread. We shouldn't have to wait for WSOP time every year for these hijinks to ensue.

OOT monthly garbage thread is a really good idea I think.
Allows people to post silly stuff in there and others to have fun with it...and if anything is actually good enough to be a post elsewhere or a thread-starter then they can get the feedback to do that.

The idea of the monthly thread would be for people without any idea good enough for their own thread to still have a place in OOT to post and essentially it works like a pointless "chat" thread or something like that.
I don't think it would be a good idea to take bad OOT threads and merge them into the monthly thread. They should just be locked or deleted as per usual.

I really disliked the 'merge' thread right from the start. (I kind of saw what NT was getting at I think...just didn't care for it so much).
I really like the idea of the monthly OOT garbage thread though.

I think we need one stickied thread for all tip related business. That would cut the overall posts by half.

It's not really worth it. Some douche tarped me into going to a nightclub with bottle service apparently to defray some of his cost. I got there late, didn't have any drinks, I kicked in $20 just to help out and then the next day they were calling me cheap behind my back cuz I didn't pay $100. Very frustrating but it tells you who your friends are.

I'm not a big fan of bottle service either anymore. What I learned is it tears apart friendships and costs a lot of money, but if you play your cards right you can get laid.
