I’ve had Reddit forever but just actively started using it…

And I can say generally the trolls get voted to obilvion.

Another thing I noticed is in subreddit you’re kind of protected on a topic.

Here it seems the mods interfere too much and will often push back instead of just letting the downvotes do their part like on Reddit.

This isn’t an attack on 2p2 or mods bc I think Reddit lacks the push back that 2p2 provides. I think mods generally do better here than there. Maybe cuz they’re not needed bc of the downvote system. Maybe we need downvotes?

Is Reddit an echo chamber if the opposing views get downvoted to oblivion?

Reddit, in some subreddits at least I like how the conversation can kind of get somewhere when surrounded by like minded people (unless I’m in the minority). When you don’t have to waste all your energy arguing dissenting views sometimes progress gets made.

BUT obviously we should want opposing views in public discourse so IDK

They did institute downvotes here. You can see the numbers at the bottom right of the post. I will say that since the introduction of this like/dislike system the main page of NVG feels like it has gotten fairly toxic. The topics are clickbaity and the people discussed are some of the worst that poker has to offer. It's NVG though so it's hard to gauge.

Reddit is more varied because there is more traffic, but the downvotes there can represent spite or ignorance or legit defense against bad ideas/actors. Since there is less traffic here the mods can actually do a decent job of policing things, and most of the time it's useful to step in and give people a timeout when their argument has devolved into personal attacks. In the moment it seems important, but a day later you likely won't even care.

I've never been a fan of Reddit vs traditional message board format. It just doesn't make sense to me. It's incredibly hard to read and if you contribute late to a topic then your response is never even viewed by the majority of readers. It just feels like a massive **** post.

That’s actually a really good point…

You have to be early the party

It's the bars above your posts in a traditional message board that keeps you sane.
