Rapini gave me a warning once, next day I was donating my organs to the needy.

Ignorance is not an excuse to break a rule.

This is a "grunch" in a way and not a response to OP directly , I stay out of B+M fights cause , well, Rapini is a big boy and can take care of himself much like Dids and I can with OOT.

Posting PMs of a personal nature is obviously horrible, but also often entertaining.
This.

This to.

"I didn't read the sticky" is never a defense.

So I'll ask the same question again. If someone threatens me or insults me or whatever, via PM, because of some social convention, you're not allowed to post it? Clearly the facility is there to provide the option of exchanging confidential information, but that's on the sender, not the receiver.
You can report abusive or threatening PMs to mods. That is not the same as posting them in threads.

As well as that, I run a 2p2 football team, and there's no need for all the details of who's playing where and when and so on to be made public. That doesn't mean it would cause any of us harm if these details were made public, but we keep the messages private because there's no point in flooding the forums with them. People actually complain when their subforums get clogged up with stuff that could get done by PM.
You missed the part about the norm where if all parties to the PM are fine with publishing them then there is no reason not to publish them. I find if funny that you get your nickers in a twist about rough language on the internet but don't see how publishing information someone meant to be private is acceptable.

I'm just saying that it feels like a weird taboo. I don't see why someone shouldn't be able to post a message like the one OP posted, whether it was from a mod or not. If there are confidential details in there, money, contact details, or whatever, then you'd be breaking sender's confidence in publicizing, and that's rightly seen as wrong, but there's just no reason to say 'ooh, you reposted a pm? that's BAAAD' without thinking about it at all.
You've shared your feelings and you've been educated on the reasons for the taboo. What you do with that info is up to you. But you calling something dumb isn't going to save you from the consequences of breaking the taboo. Particularly if the people enforcing the taboo don't think it's dumb.

Was not trying to excuse the OP's breaking the rules. Just responding to the mod's post and the fact he seemed to be basing it on the belief the OP had read the sticky.

I've never read the B and M stickies but I just assume anything i'd want to post isn't allowed

Only ever posted one PM (part of it, it was super long and the spelling got a bit tough to make out the meaning near the end),but I got the gist. In the low content H & F. I feel kinda bad doing it, but the person was threatening to hunt me down like the smarmy pig I am. People kind of laughed. No laughing matter. That was back in 09. Been a rough few years, but thank God, still here.

I'm still on your trial.

That first post you got points for is one of the douchiest statements I've ever read. WP Rapini.

Hey, a really smart one-liner in response to being challenged over needlessly being a d***! And using the age-old excuse of the anonymity of the internet to justify it! Glad to see the calibre of mod is remaining high over here and that you don't think you should be held to a higher standard than the average idiot on the internet.

I don't see how you think I'm getting my knickers in a twist. I'm just questioning what to me seems like a mindless taboo. I'm not involved in this in any way and have never reposted any PMs nor been the victim of it. But a few people itt have given their opinion that reposting PMs is bad always no matter what, and it should be clear that that's a bit silly. I don't know how you can justify being an a** to me because I'm asking a question.
11-30-2012 , 04:09 PM
I called you a moran and you called me a quasi-mod and a dick, does that make us even now?

ITT people have tried to explain that it isn't a "mindless taboo," there are valid reasons behind it. You just don't seem to agree with those reasons.
11-30-2012 , 04:14 PM
You're in a position of authority. You had no reason to to start an epeen fight with a random. You think it's ok to say stuff like that to a random just because that random later didn't just sit down and take your abuse?

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anything. I'm asking questions, trying to start a debate. I can see that there are valid reasons for the taboo, but I'm asking if there's any need for it to be a blanket taboo.

Given Byrung, in another thread, wants to do things to Jessica Biel, I'm left to wonder about his/her gender.

This thread isn't particularly unique. Rapini wants to ban everyone.

Pretty sure u are him. Same bad spelling. Still confirmed hunting. Still scared for my life. Def still smarmy pig.

I'll simply note that there is an alternative to Brick and Mortar: Mortar and Brick. Same topics, lighter moderation.

The reality is that vast majority of posters don't mind the moderation of B&M. Otherwise B&M would be a ghost town. At a minimum, it doesn't bother them enough to make a change.

Now I understand the difference between B&M and M&B.
