Question about trainwrecking Question about trainwrecking

06-07-2015 , 02:09 PM
In the Politics forum sticky, "no trainwrecking" is listed under the section about site-wide rules applying. In OOT, the sticky explicitly states that train wrecks are not against the rules of this website.

Which one is right?

i hope you're not implying that the mods are just making rules up as they go along in order to ban whoever they don't like

Umm, both?

It is allowed in OOT because it's not against 2+2 rules, but it's not allowed in Politics because the Politics sticky says it isn't allowed in Politics.

What's difficult to understand here?

This is the first sentence that you must have missed:

In the Politics forum sticky, "no trainwrecking" is listed under the section about site-wide rules applying.

Perhaps the politics sticky is just wrong.

Trainwreck is the title of the new Judd Apatow film starring the great Amy Schumer. Look for it at a theater near you.

Seems like there's enough ambiguity about what people mean when they say trainwreck that it's kinda hard to have a site wide rule against it.

In OOT it used to mean having stuff that happened on 2p2 brought into real life, but it seems like people also use it to mean posting RL info on 2p2.

Just don't be an ******* and keep 2p2 stuff on 2p2 and real life to real life.

The term train-wrecking doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of rules for a social forum.

What exactly would be prohibited? For what purpose?

This entity clearly deserves to be a moderator of *something*!

The 2p2 T&C is very clear about this.

The OOT sticky says, "Be smart before posting your hot sisters Facebook page." Does this mean that the 2p2 T&C is clear about the propriety of trying to friend your hypothetical hot sister on Facebook?

I'm pretty confused why you think 2p2 would have any opinion on whether or not you try to friend your sister on Facebook.

The T&C states
Quote:
you hereby agree not to use Your Content or the Service in any other matter to:

upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;
So if you do something that Two Plus Two [Mason or Mat or one of their proxies, i.e. mods] determines is invasive of another's privacy
Quote:
Two Plus Two may remove or suspend your access and registration to the Service
In addition, Two Plus Two always reserves
Quote:
the right, but not the obligation, in our sole discretion to modify, transmit over various networks, refuse, or move any of Your Content that is available on the Service.
So, if a mod determines that someone's privacy is being violated, they may (but are not obligated to) ban or temp-ban and/or remove or modify the content.

I think you're all missing the point. Politics sticky says it's against site rules. OOT sticky says it's not against site rules. One of their statements must be false. Which is it?

Not really- because there's no agreement on what "it" is.

Could using a poster's personal details to harass, torture, or defame them also be considered trainwrecking ?

Or does the term only apply specifically to invasion of privacy?

None of these definitions make any sense though and it's the first time I've heard the term used to refer to something like this.

On forums a 'train wreck' is pretty much what it sounds like - it's a thread that's turned into a total disaster. Typically one where stupidity, side tracking and bad logic is so out of control that any rational human being just can't bear to witness it, yet still can't resist doing so.

If what is meant here is outing of personal info then it should be worded as such because nobody who is new to those subforums would know what's meant.

Then again, that outing of personal info isn't allowed should be really obvious to everyone.

when i have a clear understanding of the meaning of the term, i will let everyone know if it is against the rules.

until then i don't find the term to be useful in the specific rules of any individual forum.
