I understand that the issue of racism and sexism and homophobia and issues like this are very sensitive. Bigots spouting off bigotry is not a good look. It is my experience that behind bigotry is very often a violation of logic.

For instance, let's say a white supremacist asserts that the white race is genetically superior. Well, the facts of the matter are that humans originated in Africa, and as such, all humans have some amount of pure African DNA. So his argument is defeated by logic itself.

But this is not to say that specific rules that get into the minutia cannot be made, that's not to say this at all. Anyone can discuss and propose anything. What this proposal I've made is, is a basis for which all other laws can be derived.

Specific rules addressing things like racism and sexism can and should be made, but they should be made logically.

If you think this can be a well thought out, structured, and actionable rule, you can offer an amendment if you like

I think we should try to reach consensus on the premise before deciding what the conclusion should be.
No.

So what do you think makes a good rule? Are there defining characteristics of a good rule?

Mmm-hmm.

As someone told you when your self-ban request was granted...

Spoiler:
Good luck. Good choice on leaving. It does seem unhealthy at this stage.

Why didn't you ban them when you were the mod?

All cows,

If my responses to your posts contain inconvenient information, I can't help you with that- as that is a 'do it yourself' type situation. Best wishes dealing with it.

They either weren't there or weren't as disruptive as they are now. I was also trying to minimize the amount of crap Mat got from PU related activity. Banning those folks would have resulted in a lot of whinge emails to Mat.

They're not doing anything now they weren't doing when you were modding it. People asked you to deal with the troublemakers you mentioned and you did squat, yet now you're backseat modding chez because he's letting the usual suspects tard up the place.

I give the chez character another few weeks. He'll finish out March and be gone by April. By the way, did you know that, in French, March is "Mars" and April is "Avril"?

Unchained baby. It wasn't pretending to be a forum for people to have political discussion. At it's best it was a forum for people to post about how bad the posters in PU where. Everybody in PU got as much rope as they could handle. Because in Alta they bitched about arbitrary bannings, I gave posters too many warnings and options to improve before banning them. As far as lying, trolling, pointless bickering, and the rest of the **** going on now, there were no rules about it so there were no bans for it. I'm done with P7 because Chez is being exactly the kind of ****ty mod anyone could see he was going to be and Mat is ok with it.

There's a few posts I'm quite confused by, and I don't have a lot of time to post right now, so I'll just say that I would love to mod the forum. As a new user, it's clear there are lots of issues with moderation in the forum, and it's pretty bad when this is clear to someone new.

It's also quite obvious that chezlaw is the main problem, and I think he has proven himself to be wholly incapable of handling this responsibility. I think I would easily prove myself to be a far better moderator, one who actually listens to the input the posters themselves are trying to give, than the illogical and illegitimate Trumplaw that is making the forum terrible again.

Sincerely,

AllCowsEatGrass

It's quite obvious that you're either a new poster who's been here only a couple of weeks and therefore shouldn't be trusted with mod powers, or you've had previous accounts which puts you in breach of T&C.

This whole as a new poster schtick gets old pretty quickly, but since when haven't people been allowed to have previous accounts (I mean, you're saying this in a thread started by Noodle Wazeebal), even if their other accounts have been banned, and especially when their former account was banned at their own request? But it's really hard to post worse than pretending that you're new here when obviously you're not and all the mods reading your posts know who you are.

Well, you're sort of right. The last time he was banned, it was at his own request.

Assuming he's had no accounts in between, that is.
