the moderators of individual forums get to be almost 100% autonomous. we basically have a federalist system on the site. very few issues with moderation ever require my intervention.

My reason for posting here is not to bring attention to this individual post, but rather to use it as an example of what I am confused about when it comes to the content that's allowed on this site. Are mods being left to police content like this as individuals; are forums left to decide as a community what content is acceptable to them? Where is the line..

I guess in response to your previous post I'd ask why the nature of the content of the offensive post is not covered anywhere in the TOS for the site rather than left up to individuals who will vary greatly across a large website like this one, and whether you have considered if it maybe should be?

I don't mean this as a challenge, btw. I hope you don't take it as such.

May I ask if you have an opinion on the offensive post?

I completely understand wanting to keep with tradition, but even Reddit is making moves to curtail unwanted content and its creators. Is it perhaps possible that 2p2 is also in line for a bit of evolution with the times.. It seems that there is a portion of your user base who have expressed the opinion that it would be a welcomed change, and I'd include myself among them.

I generally fall in the camp of thinking it's better to let people say offensive things and then let those things be refuted. However, most people seem to disagree with me and that's why the site is so heavily moderated.

Therefore I leave that post and poster in the hands of the moderator of that forum, and effectively have no opinion one way or another. At this moment.

Have you talked to the moderators of that forum about your concerns?

what you are requesting can and does happen in individual forums. just think of them as separate sites. if enough users have problems with an individual site (forum) they can eventually come to me with their concerns. but the first step will also be to discuss with the mods there.

i notice changes are already taking place in the pog politics thread, for instance. perhaps because you requested them?

The mods have been discussing changes to try to make it a bit more friendly to post in.

I don't think we're particularly keen on outlawing particular views but you might note that the poster in question has been banned.

True, however I was also penalized for calling said poster a piece of **** scumbag in response to his offensive posts, which is actually covered in the TOS. It seems odd that someone can say its worse to marry a Jew than a 13yo girl, but I can't call them a piece of **** per the TOS.

MB, I hope you don't consider this me making an issue for you; I only posted it here because I'm frustrated by the confusion when it comes to what is acceptable content for the site. I think your decisions were ultimately correct fwiw, including my own penalty.

Without wishing to relitigate the debate, he actually didn't say it was worse to marry a Jew than bang 13yos, he said more people would agree it was. Which is probably true, sadly.

It was a stupid thing to say but there you go, people say stupid things.

There isn't really any confusion. You just don't like his posts. Which is fine. They're ****. I don't much like them either. And he's already been banned by half the subforums on 2p2, it seems

But I'd hate to have to start banning people for ****posting in the politics thread. There'd be no one left to talk to!
