Well, we don't actually disagree all that much.

If we had advertisers that said they're going to pull all of their ads if we don't do 'X', there are times we would do 'X', and there are times when we'd tell them we couldn't. I think we'd weigh each decision independently, and it would depend on how reasonable that request is.

What I can say for sure is that I have, numerous times, had advertisers that I thought might face some controversy here, and I've made it very clear to them before we go any further that we don't delete reasonable criticism just because they don't like it.

So yes, there are times (like the 4L situation you described) when advertisers' concerns have taken precedence over what the posters wanted (although that's the only time I can remember). But there are also many times when the opposite happens, which is why I objected to your blanket statement.

Question for you Bobo: I haven't yet sent the email to the advertisers mentioned in my previous post, but I plan on it as soon as I compile more photos. This cool? I'm interested in finding out if twoplustwo's advertisers being made aware of the bigotry on the forums will lead to a different result. Thoughts?

If leaving it open and allowing the bigotry to be posted as is the case now, and just deleting the whole forum are the only two options, then take the second one please. But I see no reason why these are the only two options, and I've seen no reasoning at all why perma banning the handful of posters causing all the problems isn't a better solution than the two aforementioned.

There have been times when advertisers have requested a critical post be deleted, and told that it couldn't be. I know Lock Poker certainly didn't get what they wanted once they started having payout issues. We had a Sports Betting forum advertiser whose campaign was cancelled when posters brought issues to light. And the simple fact that they are told up front how we handle critical posts is a message about where our priorities are - we don't get a whole lot of requests to take things down, because advertisers know this.

What kind of different result are you hoping for than this?

I'm obviously critical of much that goes on here, but trying to sabotage people's livelihoods over internet slapfights seems like a huge dick move. Take a deep breath, wait a few days for Matt and WN to talk things over, and re-evaluate.

So why the situation with 4L? None of the posters wanted the rule change, and the advertiser/s did, and the posters were **** on for the advertiser.

I think the different result I'm seeking is anything being done, rather than nothing, ever. I'd much prefer to 86 the small handful of bigots, and then continue the forum without them. But for some really strange reason this just isn't an option, and no one has offered any sort of explanation why.

Advertisers never complained about bigots. They (google) complained about boobs. The changes that are now being made have 100% to do with user complaints and absolutely nothing to do with any communications we had with advertisers.

What you now need to do is to figure how to keep posting in the main politics forum without being exiled.

Advertisers probably aren't aware of the bigots and their posts. Thus explains why I was planning to send them emails to make them aware.

Regarding user complaints and suggestions, there seems to be a very small handful suggesting to just delete the forum entirely. Most members seem to be suggesting different mods, or banning the problem posters.

Still don't understand why only two options, and why banning the problem members isn't a good, or possible solution.

So does this mean that PU is coming back?
