I don't blame Mat for not wanting to modify politics. I clearly agree the you should be able to post there if you are unable to do so, but you're not going to have the pleasure to say that Kavanaugh is a cool dude without a few people telling you to die from pancreatic cancer. Politics really ****ed up a few individuals over there.
But yeah, arguing about it because it isn't your cup of tea is ridic. It is what it is and there are other forums.
If you look at the posts, the people being mobbed and attacked aren't even going that far
Yeah I don't want to and I'm not allowed to post in the politics section. I would gladly post my history and have anyone reasonable tell me how I was treated fairly. I'm not here for that though. I just think the current situation is ridiculous (as outlined in op) and that the current politics section can remain the same while providing something new that is an actual politics section.
AFAIK 2p2 is a business. None of this even makes any sense from that standpoint either. They are allowing an intolerant mob to shut down participation from 2p2 users. 2p2 is also allowing this far left community to abuse its customers that want to participate in discussion.... which is the business model. If they haven't monetized clicks like everyone else, they should.
To put it in perspective the most thoughtful and intelligent left of liberal poster in politics is well named. He accumulates thousands of posts. He posts in an isolated community on 2p2 that has politics discussion instead of the regular section. Why would someone in the forum business drive their customers to other forums? Why are they letting an intolerant group run the show? It's weird. Is there another poker boom around the corner?

2p2 Politics section is far left. To state otherwise would be ignorant. Einbert is openly a communist and treated civilly while people standing up for liberal values are met with disdain. The last time I pointed out communism has failed every single time and is responsible for about 100 million deaths and exponentially more suffering in the 20th century, a bunch of posters got all defensive and started going all "what about capitalism?". Sorry but that's a lot of "extreme" left imo.
The left here is definitely far left. It's certainly left of liberal. It's not just here either. Liberals like Bill Maher are being left behind. Its impossible to ignore the popularity of Bernie Sanders. From B Clinton, Obama, Hilary, to Sanders and now Cortez is a clear sign that mainstream leftism is going further left and getting more popular.
One of the things you can note when talking about "extremes" on the left and right is intolerance. The level of intolerance on 2p2 politics is obvious. People in the bubble or blinded by their own ideology might not notice. You are actually part of the problem. You are one of 3 mods participating in 2p2 politics that are flat out shallow and rude to the customers.

Is this "bad faith" which is a tool used by politics mods to ban people? This is obvious hyperbole. I mean nobody is even being accused of rape. Unlike all the other public cases (B clinton, Cosby, Weinstein, etc) there are multiple accusations and some evidence. The guy has a 35 year clean record with no further accusations. He is not even being accused of rape. He is facing accusation from behavior as a drunk minor by a (drunk?) minor. There is clear political motivation and the whole thing has been brought forward in a politically tactical manner. There's no room for reasonable skepticism? this is a discussion forum you know. Are you being rude, shallow and snarky? I know how you've treated me in the past and seen your posting habits. This is not out of character. Again, I don't need to mine your posting history I'm extracting all of this out of the same thread over a couple days.
The reason I looked at the Kavanaugh thread is because it's an interesting case on multiple levels. That's kind of the thing people participate on forums for.
How far do we take the presumption of innocence?
How far is too far in political gamesmanship?
Where do you draw the line between second chance and irredeemable?
Where and how do you draw the line between minor and adult?
How accurate is eye witness testimony, and memory over time?
None of these discussions are taking place. There are some attempts being derailed by a mouth frothing mob hurling shallow insults and hyperbole. Including the mods
