i'll elaborate a little. i'm never going to mention names, but the last report contained the following phrase: "is rather offensive". if people are going to debate politics then things will get a little ugly and many of the post reports I see don't seem justified to me.

Feeling offended is one of the drives that motivates people to participate in politics and is also one of the defense mechansims used when a sacred cow is being feasted upon. It maybe weak but if clicking report post is gonna help somebody "win" they are going to do it.

I think inherently someone else's political beliefs are going to sound stupid as ****... to make things worse, often people argue positions that are quite franking terrible. These guys get trolled, rightfully (sttteeellllhoussseee). This kind of tactic gets moved into other arguments, and I can tell you for sure that if there are 4 people on the other side assuming the other argument is stupid, the 1 guy on the other side is going to think others are not listening. You see the same lame ****ing strawman argument piled on top of 1 person (who is likely wrong granted) arguing things that are not responded too (because the majority thinks they know what this person is arguing, but are really only strawmanning).

I don't consider myself an ACist, but go look at some of these old ACist threads, and see how long it is before someone on the other side starts talking about child molestation slavery. Ok, we get it, you don't think ACism could work, blanketly you think that its the stupidest ****ing idea you've ever heard. GREAT, SAY YOUR PIECE AND GTFO.

Also another small contributor.. I think the politics forum is generally longer term members on 2p2 (people drift from other forums and stay in politics when they no longer play poker or whatever). These people are more used to the deal. I mod STTf and no one ever hits the report post button... stop snitching I guess... this attitude is different in Politics so a post that should be reported has a much higher chance to be reported (as do bull**** report post too).

Being someone who has reported posts in politics, I can tell you for sure it just gets older than sand to 'debate' someone who doesn't even listen to a word you say... immediately dismisses other veiwpoints as crazy talk. You have to dismiss many views in politics, because many of them are bad ideas.. the problem comes when people dismiss ideas they assume they know, that they don't know the argument, and would know if they god damn ****ing read any of your last 10 posts.

Honestly, it would be nicer than a pig in **** if people objectively looked at others positions and said "hey that's not what he said" every now and then. Espesh if the call for sanity is from one of the people arguing against the point, maybe people will listen to each other every now and then. Lots of times, and this is just politics at its worst, it feels like it turns into a shouting match where neither side is really listening.
