Mayo, is John Calipari a better coach than Rick Pitino or Adolph Rupp? Was John Wooden a better coach than Kryzewski at Duke?

Better basketball state, Kentucky or Indiana?

Oh yeah, Rectify is the ****.
Approximately 21.682%. I'm not at all a Libertarian. I like government. I like safety nets. I'd like single payer healthcare. I'd like the government to pay for college tuition. These ideas are antithetical to the Libertarian view.

I think that Calipari is definitely better than Pitino as a modern era coach, which is basically all about recruiting. Pitino might be a better in game coach, but that's a lot less important than getting all the best recruits to join the team in the first place.

As far as Rupp and Wooden vs. the modern guys, the job was completely different back in the day and you can't compare them at all imo.

It's Kentucky, obviously. Indiana is all smug because Hoosiers was set there. BFD. The story of Hoosiers is the story of a small school winning the state championship, but that's not even possible in Indiana anymore. They have divided up their schools into different classes, so that Hickory High doesn't even get the chance to have their Cinderella season. Kentucky is one of the only states that still has all of their basketball teams play in one tournament, which leads to the Sweet Sixteen every year in Rupp Arena, which is awesome.

Also, in point of fact, Indiana University's basketball team is horrible, and that is funny.

I said this in August. I still kinda sorta stand by it, but replace "has no chance" with "still probably an underdog." In August, I'd've put his chances at winning the nomination at 1% or so, and now I'd put them at 20% or so. But a more honest prognostication would be that I just don't know. The August post was me dismissing Trump as a fad, which was clearly wrong. I obviously don't have a great handle on the GOP electorate and what makes them tick, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Plenty of pundits (like Nate Silver) are now saying that as candidates drop out, support will coalesce around a non-Trump candidate, most likely Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz. That could very well happen, but I don't think it's as much as a lock as the Nate Silver crowd. Here's a recent post in politards explaining my thinking in some detail:

Even groups that aren't in the "Trump base" love him by huge margins. Here those groups are, with Cruz's and Rubio's numbers in the same categories:

Evangelicals: Trump +48%; Cruz: +58%; Rubio +51%
College graduates: Trump +37%; Cruz: +62%; Rubio +77%
Self described moderates: Trump +27%, Cruz: +41%; Rubio +46%

So in these three groups that I've highlighted, Trump has very good favorability ratings, even though Cruz and Rubio have even better ratings. The fact that Trump's numbers are so good in these groups makes me really question the wisdom of people (like Adanthar) who are super confident that Trump has an impenetrable ceiling and will crumble when the field narrows. Based on these numbers, there's no reason to assume that when a bunch of candidates drop out, Trump won't hoover up a lot of those votes.

Basically, I'm saying that the GOP really has fallen in love with Trump. His favorability in the GOP in this poll is +45% (72% to 27%). In the same poll in July, Trump's favorability in the GOP was only +9% (51% to 42%, page 30 of this poll, which sadly and inexplicably doesn't break down favorability within GOP subsets). +9 to +45 is a gigantic shift, especially for someone who was so well known. I can't think of anyone else who has ever had a positive shift like that, and I just don't see any reason to think that it's magically going to shift back. Maybe it will. I hope it will.

I'm not predicting that Trump will win. I still, despite everything, still have some amount of faith in the Republican party voters, and I know that there's still a lot of time left before Iowa and a lot of volatility still to happen. But... how is it going to happen? I'm really at a loss.
Who the hell knows.

Pretty much agree with your take now, and also back in August. He should not have lasted this long. I'm not sure what it means, but I'm afraid it's significant, and it's disturbing.

Do you think Skal turns it around this year?

What will the Harrisons legacy be?

Think this is Pitino's last year?

He'll turn it around, of course.

Harrisons: great college players. They'll be beloved in KY for years.

Doubt it's Pitino's last year, but who knows. **** him.

Your questions itt have been pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. But over in the politics forum, Da.vid Sklan.sky is asking the real questions:
