This.

I've never been a big fan of this idea, but I don't see the harm in trying it for a while to see how well it does (or doesn't) work.

The default theme is terrible. I look forward to you adding this feature to other themes as well. I also think dislikes are useful. YouTube recently removed dislike counts from showing up and now I rarely use the like/dislike feature. If someone dislikes my post I'd like to see that they dislike it so that I can be better.

I like that I'm not able to like my own posts, although apparently I can dislike it (which I don't think I should be able to do but not a big deal).

the best part is the public record of dislikes could revamp our dying hu4rollz meta

Ditto. I use Slick theme for my laptop, and the new theme only when mobile (which is very rare).

If we have likes does that mean we can start banning people who quote the full 2,000 word post directly above theirs just to add +1? This is the main benefit to likes. It makes these types of posts obsolete

^^ this
I don't really care one way or another, but since the "liker" is public, clever trolls will soon figure out that they can troll someone by liking their posts. For example, if Bobo and I fight all the time in Politics and he knows I hate him, I can troll him by following him around and liking every post he makes. Or less subtly, when someone posts
Quote:
Bobo that was a dumb post and you're wrong
all of the people who don't like Bobo can start liking that post, using it as a proxy for "disliking" Bobo's post.

Anyway, really just thinking out loud here. I'm sure nobody would ever actuallly use likes in this fashion.

Well, that would be better than now when you and all your gimmick accounts send me hate PMs in reply to my posts.

Every time I've seen likes enabled on forums it leads to bullying and misinformation.

John Doe doesn't know who's taking the piss and who is upvoting good poker content. it's confusing and clique. Very offputting to new players.

Plus what guarantees do we have that this isn't some subversive marketing plan exploiting our preferences for micro $ like every other web.2 portal?

It feels like a lot of sites that implemented that system wound up becoming unhealthy places to spend time. We already kinda know like/dislike upvote/downvote systems have some perceived collateral damage. It has a kinda inadvertent effect of quantifying a relationship, which can lead to hurt feelings where there were none intended. This is not an impossible update, and you guys know what things went wrong on previous platforms. Ideas are always evolving, the options don't have to be "LIKE" and "DISLIKE" That's like some caveman ****. Don't follow. Put ur own spin on it, and then it will go well. 2+2 isn't an app where it needs to go the same route as other sites to drive traffic. The site is primed for expansion, you just need to market the content that is available. Make the like system something that recommends people read a certain post or thread. Make the reasons to add any "reaction" something that is helpful to others browsing the site. Try to aim towards it being a meritocracy rather than a marketing competition.

Personally I'd love to get recommendations for some of the best strategy advice on the site. I'll go into the HSNL section and read a 10 page strategy post about a game I'm not even practicing for. I also like when I stumble onto a hilarious page of a thread. There's definitely merit to a system to promote the good stuff, but the current version of the like/dislike system is clearly defunct. It keeps ending the same way. Look at how Reddit is going. People are cursing each other out and getting downvoted under a photo of a cute salamander. People typing in the comments section of porn gifs like the gif is going to respond. Then randomly one comment will be downvoted, like "nah you can't talk to the gif like that" The site is so full of karma-farming that people repost the same exact content over and over. They literally are messing up the site where they spend all their time, it's so odd to watch. Anyway yeah don't do likes. Or do em. Idk.

Wait, does the fact that these posts were made from same IP mean that...no, it couldn't be. I must have misread.

I think like/dislike can be useful by reducing the requotes and provides some additional feedback to posters. Just like YouTube, you see 5x or more 'views' than likes, but I think at least offering the like feature will show posters that someone at least took the time to read the post .. and appreciate/agree with it. Never really looked at it but I would think that comments on YouTube are probably 4-5x lower than likes as well.

It could go the other way as well, like Facebook, where you'll get 'in trouble' with a poster for not liking their post but liking someone else's.

I like feedback .. but who knows if it's false feedback or not? GL

Everyone told you they disliked your posts in the postle thread but that didn’t stop you. A button would make all the difference tho?

you'd be the clear winner of most dislikes considering those who go harder in the paint often get the ban hammer

never the most prolific but you're the cal ripken of dislikes

The Postle thread was filled with a bunch of brain dead idiots incapable of proving that an obvious cheat was cheating despite having access to hundreds of hours of footage where he was clearly cheating. That thread was a real black eye for these forums but did in a way serve as a containment thread for the type of stupidity that does not necessarily permeate throughout the rest of 2p2.
