can we fix the bug where when the function where you click to go to the last unread post doesn't break if someone posted a twitter embed?

when that happens going to most recent post just sends you to the twitter post every time until a new page, it's a minor bug but very annoying

+1, very annoying.

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I'm pretty disappointed that the 2+2 magazine has been discontinued. I suspect it had VERY few readers, but I think that's 100% a marketing issue rather than a content issue.

2+2 (books and forums) has established a reputation for thought leadership, and the magazine is an excellent way to perpetuate that. I would ask that some thought be given to bringing it back in an entirely different format.

good call. I've experienced this bug but never knew what the hell the problem was.

I agree with everything in this post, except this being a minor bug. It's a pretty significant one since it's so annoying and makes you never trust where you go when you click a thread.

I can't say you made my day with this information. Buzz on the Omaha 8 forum put in a lot of effort into that magazine, during his living days, thanks Buzz! Somehow I hadn't checked in a while to know the magazine was gone

I'll correct one thing, not to be a nit but hopefully to help solve the problem. I *think* it doesn't take us to the Twitter post, but instead displaces where we should be taken by the amount that the Twitter embed(s) take up on that thread page. In other words, it seems to take us to the correct post, but then as the thread completely loads, Twitter embeds come in last and **** everything up.

If I have that wrong and it actually is taking people directly to one of the Twitter embeds, then please correct me. Just trying to get the details right in case it helps with the bug.

Bobo is correct. It properly takes you to the first unread post, but then the Twitter embeds load AFTER that happens, pushing that first unread post down off the screen (in some cases WAY off the screen).

Hey, is there anyway that pages can be bookmarked after the update. I'm not sure what it looks like on the forum-maintenance-people's end, but it would be cool if there was a way to click a checkbox to see where users last read. Then they wouldn't have to reread posts to find out where they were at on previous visits.

Sometimes I'll read through a thread and want to read the rest later, but it takes awhile to find the spot where I left off. This feature would be best if you clicked a box rather than tracking pages being loaded since users might not read to the very bottom of the page.

For example, you could click on a checkbox next to post #59 then that post and all the previous comments would turn a darker shade to visually aid that it has been read.

Do use the arrow to the left of thread titles? That takes you to the most recent post since you last read the thread, or if you didn't finish reading all the new posts last time, it will take you to the first post of the next page as it assumes you read all the posts on the page you left off. In the latter case, you have less than one page to sort out where you left off. Not precisely what you're asking, but close. And it happens automatically.

I would be happy if all embedded social media were automatically hidden behind spoilers.

i only discovered it by accident a few years back, was a game changer and a big reason to stop lurking and be more active so you'll probably all hate the feature now

I'm already using it and loving it. Thanks Bobo. Although, if the feature I suggested gets added it would be icing on the cake.

In addition to this, if you wait until the twitters have loaded (and you've been scrolled out of place in the thread), then click up to the address bar and press enter, you will be scrolled to the new correct scroll position in the thread! I believe Suzzer once posted a bookmarklet or greasemonkey extension type thing to do this automatically, but can't find it. Probably only makes sense if you're browsing on a computer. Keyboard shortcut for this is Alt+D, Enter.

You have to install tampermonkey extension for Chrome, then add this script:

Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name         2p2-Scrollback-after-tweets
// @namespace    http://tampermonkey.net/
// @version      0.1
// @description Scroll back to the correct anchor tag after tweets load and screw up the scroll position
// @author       suzzer99
// @match        https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/*index*.html
// @grant        none
// ==/UserScript==

function scrollTo (position, duration) {
    // cancel if already on top
    if (document.scrollingElement.scrollTop === position) return;

    const totalScrollDistance = document.scrollingElement.scrollTop;
    let scrollY = totalScrollDistance, oldTimestamp = null;

    function step (newTimestamp) {
        if (oldTimestamp !== null) {
            // if duration is 0 scrollY will be -Infinity
            scrollY -= totalScrollDistance * (newTimestamp - oldTimestamp) / duration;
            if (scrollY <= 0) return document.scrollingElement.scrollTop = position;
            document.scrollingElement.scrollTop = scrollY;
        }
        oldTimestamp = newTimestamp;
        window.requestAnimationFrame(step);
    }
    window.requestAnimationFrame(step);
}

(function() {

    setTimeout(() => {
        //scrollTo(document.getElementById(window.location.hash.substr(1)).offsetTop + 85, 100);
        document.documentElement.scrollTop = document.getElementById(window.location.hash.substr(1)).offsetTop + 85;
    }, 5000);

})();
Actually you don't even need the scrollTo function, just the (function()... part at the end. I gave up trying to get animation to work. But if someone gets it working please share.

The comments at the top are important.

And the sidebar, is it part of 2+2 history now?

Looking good! However, the "New" indicator is missing from posts in this new theme. So now it's harder to tell if you've been loaded in to the wrong scroll position. Also, people with large undertitles do not word wrap correctly (Suzzer a good example). Last thing, it is weird the quick-reply button no longer puts quoted text as bbcode in the textbox, now needing to "go advanced" to see it. And maybe it's just me, but the textbox is a bit laggy and giving me 100% cpu spikes as I edit.

I might be crazy, but it seems the Private Message system is missing the regular quote/link/embed/font buttons. I say crazy because they might have never been there. It would be nice to have these options.

Not sure if can see post, time zone is off:

Post above me, Today, 07:25 PM

Time now, 11;40 am.

Will check to see if settings have been changed, but it says my post is 7:40pm.

Found it, the settings were auto changed to GMT (which I suspected). This should not have happened.

It's apparently "normal time" for all, fixed it through Options, was only two hours off...
