Important Announcement: 2+2 is getting a facelift - About the Forums

This is the first step towards a new and modern Two Plus Two.

The change will allow 2+2ers to view the forum from their mobile devices without the need to use TapaTalk. Another good thing is that all the current themes will still be present and accessible. Themes are located at My 2+2 > Edit Options > Forum Skin.

These are the goals we are trying to accomplish:

Declutter UI, make it more user-friendly.
Make the new design as close as possible to the old one, save the legacy.
Make a modern design that is in pace with 2021.
Make it mobile-friendly.

Main design changes:

A new left-side navigation panel. It can be hidden to create some extra space for viewing the forum.
User friendlier top navigation panel.
Mobile version.
Overall visual facelift and declutter.

Left-side Navigation Panel

The left panel becomes expanded by default, extra space between links delivers better accessibility. The panel is wider but can be hidden.

Top navigation panel

Top navigation gets simplified. Search, messages, and "My 2+2" are moved to the right corner. There is still a quick way to check the inbox or log out.

Mobile Version

And of course a proper user-friendly mobile version that is consistent with the desktop version.

What do you think about this new design?

Are there any other 2+2 pages you would want to see updated?

Do you think you gonna actively use the left panel or mostly keep it hidden?

+1, having working search functionality would be helpful. The 15 second delay between searches is really annoying as well.

As for the layout of the screenshots posted above - having to click page numbers for a thread isn't very mobile-friendly. Not sure what the best solution is, maybe just like 5 larger buttons: First, Prev, GoTo, Next, Last.

FWIW I have never used taptalk to read 2p2 on my android but instead just loaded the normal webpage on chrome. Fewer links and more drop down menus will be very helpful.

Something like Latest View on Discourse and Fluid View on Invision that shows threads with recent posts from different forums on a single page. It should show threads from the forums I'm subscribed to so I can see all the forums I'm interested in on the same page instead of having to open 6 different forums to browse.

WYSIWYG editor that automatically embeds social media without having to use archaic tags. Self-hosted images with drag and drop functionality.

Cool, look forward to it. I use tapatalk on my mobile and don't really have an issue, aside from sometimes it doesn't load. But when it works, I'm generally content.

This has nothing to do with infinite scroll. Discourse has infinite scroll, along with a scroll bar that you can use to navigate to wherever you want in the thread without having any pagination:

A poorly implemented infinite scroll hurts more than helps. This looks like the right way to go about it.

P.S. I suspect this problem was caused due to some people marking emails received from twoplustwo as a spam. Gmail added our emailing server to it's spam list, Yahoo started blocking our emails completely.
