So in all seriousness, as a cord cutter, I did the following:
Assuming you are in an area that can get reception, get a good OTA Antenna:
1. Either wait for a good deal to come out and purchase a TIVO Roamio OTA (this is what I did and I love it, gives you whole home DVR with your OTA antenna, but I got it for much cheaper than it is now, with no monthly subscription fees), or you can try the new Amazon OTA DVR which just came ot;
2. Get a google voice account. Purchase an Obihai 200 (it’s actually on sale right now for $34 but normally $50). This will let you use your google voice number as a home phone for free. You’ll want to subscribe to an E911 service, most of them are like $12 a year, just so you can still dial 911 from your home phone.
3. Get Netflix and Amazon Prime.
4. Done. Your only monthly bill will now be your ISP bill. You will save a ton of money.
5. Possibly get Hulu. We started out with Hulu in addition to Netflix and Amazon Prime but then discovered we didn’t really need it. If there’s ever a show on cable that we can’t get through netflix or Amazon Prime for Free we just pay for the show.
Edit: With the Tivo you’ll also need to set up a Moca network in your house. It’s surprisingly easy, just make sure you buy one of those filter thingy’s to attach where the cable comes into your house so your home network signal doesn’t leach out to your neighbors.
