Yes, this was definitely a problem, which is why I mostly didn't take any mod actions in that thread until Meisner said another poster had Down's Syndrome. I think the fact that I let a lot more go after that allowed the thread to get out of control. I thought that providing warnings could help the thread calm down and become productive without ruining anyone's day, like an infraction with points could do.
Getting another mod to do most of the modding in that thread would require convincing someone else to read it. I'd be fine with that, but I don't intend to let egregious insults slide now that the thread is maybe cooled off.
