Nit: shifting goalposts is an informal fallacy :P

Apropos your avatar is a snake. Your squirming is pathetically transparent. Can't wait for your next condescending lecture on business that reveals you know basically nothing about the topic. Like your 'guarantee' to Mat that if he'd only clean up these damn bigots the people would flock to this site. LOL

Funny how upset you get when others use your own argument tactics against you.

Nit^3: You wrote "I can see you've never studied formal logic", which certainly implied that, had he done so, he would have learned about goal post moving as a formal logical fallacy.

Or at least, I can't imagine reading it otherwise.

Anyway the point is if you're going to get some logical fallacy burns in you has to be careful because there's a lot of pedantic *******s on the internet

Ah, ok. So we're done here? Fine by me.

My advice to you would be to stick to what you know (being offended, protesting, etc) and you won't leave yourself so vulnerable to humiliation.

The trend with pointing out logical fallacies in internet debates these days is meant to make debates more orderly and clean, but it usually does the opposite and spawns a second (third++) debate about why the argument doesn't fall in under the fallacy and how pointing it out as a fallacy is the actual fallacy.

So - formal and informal fallacy fallacies. Discuss.

The point is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women*. As I understand it.

* also the men.

This is also a fallacy

I can see you've never studied formal logic, which is a shame, because you might have learned about the obvious logical fallacies you keep engaging in.
Those studying X learn Y was a fallacy
Fallacy Y was committed
Therefore X wasn't studied

The wookian fallacy is far more interesting:

Some don't think there's any difference between X and Y
Others think there is
Therefore all sorts of claims that don't follow at all

It comes up a lot in various forms

Yeah, I'm not sure where misattribution of quotes fits in here.

Jesus, how can we even be sure Zeno was the one who said this stuff?

Ha. Sorry about that. It was Noodle that got sacked and has the lamenting women.

You know you just mis-attributed too right?

I provided links. 2 don't work anymore, but I think dereds can affirm one of those.

Ya'll need to head back to the protective embrace of Wookie.

Then you should hit up the google some time. Informal logic != informal logical fallacies
11-10-2017 , 07:38 AM
Meh, I thought informal logical fallacies were something included in an intro to logic class, or a rhetoric class. And, more advanced classes focused on formal logic, and other forms of specialized logic.

Is this thread what got Toothsayer banned? Or I guess a collection of similar ones.

Bummed he got perm'd frankly. He contributed a lot of interesting ideas in some thread, maybe controversial ones in others. Still think if the path is to continue to ban people like him the site is on it's way to finally dying. We can't all agree on everything. I certainly didn't agree with everything he posted. But I'm glad he participated in ways that would make me think about topics I'm interested in.

He admitted in his farewell message that he was basically trolling the entire time. My god some of you are hopelessly gullible.

Apparently tptb have decided to hide evidence that an obvious troll was allowed to spread bigotry and hate on the site for 2 years and have deleted that message.
