To me, this thread is a good representation of what often makes me sad about discourse on the Internet these days. A whole lot of pigeonholing and labeling, and people always assuming the very worst they can about people who have opinions they disagree with.
No one makes a mistake any more, they're lying. A distasteful or insensitive comment can't be simply that, they must be a racist, sexist, what have you. Someone who is offended by a distasteful or insensitive comment and calls someone out can't be simply standing up for something they believe in or letting someone now their comment bothers them, they're an "SJW" or they're "virtue signalling".
More and more, a lot of Internet discussion seems like its only goal is to divide people. Everyone's either "right" or "left" and if someone on the other "side" makes a comment you disagree with, it's your obligation to take that comment and make it out to be as bad as you possibly can.
