Can we have a Crypto Currency sub-forum in BFI? Can we have a Crypto Currency sub-forum in BFI?

Most of the top threads there are about it and I'm sure it annoys some of the BFI regulars who aren't interested. We are also limited to having threads about the top couple coins only when I'm sure we'd like one for at least everything in the top 10 and more. I personally would enjoy a low content thread or two about it (yes, even lower than the current ones ), as I'm sure others would. Many people in the Virtual Currencies thread have requested this and I suspect interest in Crypto on this site will only grow over time. What do you say, any chance?

I'd suggest you get involved in the existing discussion about this in BFI first:

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/3...ation-1695378/

A new subforum is pretty much never going to happen without community and moderator support, and it appears there's far from consensus on this idea right now.

I am strongly in this is bad camp because of the same reasons I was against the poker headlines forum. People made fun of me in that thread but history proved me right.

Have you actually ever perused the BFI forums (specifically the crypto threads) just to see for yourself? Maybe you should do so.

Spoiler:
The crypto threads are full of trolls and toxicity that would not be allowed in most places on 2p2. Might want to crack the whip on the BFI mods imo.

The crypto craze has attracted a **** load of degenerate NinComePoops. Full stop.

A % percentage of them will eventually go back to their cocaine while others will lose the rest of there capital day trading GBTC even if BTC goes up. Traffic should decline with time and the better posters can go back to having a rational conversation about Google's new Gooocoin or w/e

No, because I have no interest in BFI for the most part, and so my opinion on whether or not there should be a crpto subforum isn't especially important.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'd suggest reporting the posts in question. If you don't think the post reports are being addressed, you could always post in the moderation thread I linked. And if you feel like the mods aren't doing the job they should, you can contact Mat Sklansky. I have no whip to crack.

I don't care about BFI enough to report them. I don't even post there. The place serves little outside cheap entertainment value to me. The crypto threads especially.

You suggested nothing will change without the moderators support. The moderators of that forum appear to not even read the problematic threads or they think the trolling is funny. Moderators at some level should be aware of the going ons in their forums or they shouldn't be mods at all.

And y'know you could always do Mat the favor of looking into disputed material instead of trying to defer that back to regular posters like me who look at the ****storms with a grin.

Right, we're not likely to add subforums to a forum if the moderators don't support it. That doesn't really have a lot to do with your post.

That's entirely possible. I'm a mod of one of our busiest forums, PG&C, and I don't know if any of the moderators read any of the threads there. In most somewhat busy forums here, moderators aren't going to see most posts.

No idea why you're making this about me, but thanks for the suggestion.

You have noticed a problem, so I made some suggestions of what you could do about it. It turns out you're not interested in doing anything more than making some general comments, and that's fine. But the nature of our (and many other) forums is that moderation definitely leans on the community to report problematic posts.

Regardless, your observations are appreciated, and I'll make sure Mat is aware of them.

I am sure Mat gets a buttload of complaining in his pms. Why should I add to it?

For some reason I thought you were one of the ATF mods. I guess I was mistaken.

All I'm going to say is if I was an ATF mod I would check out the OP's request by looking at threads and may have a chat with the BFI mods. There's obvious things going on in that thread that would be snap bans in other forums without the need of report buttons if the mods even took a minute to skim those threads.

Other than Mike Haven, ATF mod is just a pity appointment by Mat for people who don't have a real forum to mod. We have no influence over forums other than ATF. If you have a complaint about how a forum is being modded, the only person who can help you is Mat.

Personally I think 2p2 is missing out on a chance to increase its user base by not having a crypto forum (not just a subforum in a forum like BFI that nobody except its regs visit), but nobody cares what I think.

Perhaps you're not aware that Mat very much lets mods operate their forums fairly independently, and he's really the only guy that's going to be having a discussion with other mods about changing the way they moderate things.

There's a whole lot of forums here that would be moderated much differently if I was the mod, but if I were to go around to each of those forums and try to move them to my own vision of moderating, that likely wouldn't turn out well.

And I think you misunderstand what ATF moderators do. They moderate ATF. There's no expectation of them to go around and check on other forums, any more than there is for any other mod.

All of this said, if other moderators think a forum is turning into a train wreck, of course conversations sometimes happen privately between mods, or in the mod forum.

I actually think this is an interesting idea, if we had a moderator who wanted to run with it.

Can you post an example? As a BFI regular with a decent sense of the community I hardly ever see much in that forum that I think is anywhere close to being worthy of snap bans, but I don't read every post either. I think the BFI mods are doing a good job and address anything that needs addressing pretty quickly.

You might consider stickying this with how frequently it gets posted in ATF.
