On a side not Admins I have enabled a dark mode option on our Vanilla site with a simple CSS addition and CSS variable substitution in my own custom theme when a user click on a link. Let me know if you would like to see how I implemented that! Very simple to add. It was the only post I saw where someone added constructive criticism asking for a dark mode

To see a demo go to http://pokerforum.main.nu (our test site still a work in progress) and click the link at the bottom for "Toggle Dark Mode"

Its a demo of our transition form VB to Vanilla and not done or organized yet either but it allowed me to program much easier for it. I even programmed a Home games calendar so users could actually see a calendar of home games... Its some much easier to program for and updates wont break your forum because they are separate from the core application. The devs that built Vanilla are good at what they do

It's an ambiguous term depending on the software you use i guess but for this forum yes this thread. I am not an expert by any means. But I am not afraid of telling people when they are acting entitled, not everyone mind you but the conversation I read on here is just useless to the admins. Its impossible to make a pizza for a thousand people and have everyone be happy. but if you are one of the people that don't get what you want, dragging you feet kicking and yelling is just selfish. Add to the discussion dont take away from it.

If this forum is so important to you that you want to be so vocal and negative when something changes then prove it by helping it become something better. This forum is what it is because of its members you can either help it grow or try to keep it exactly the same and no progress

I use the "mobi" option and love it. Will this still be an option on vanilla? If not, let's see if there is a way to make it an option.

Also, due to my preference to use mobi I am in a unique position to see nothing about a poster other then their name and what they are writing in that post. No post counts, undertitles, etc. I like it that way, it helps me judge the actual content of the post without bias (obviously it doesn't always work).

On a related note, MrCaspan, you seem upset. Just relax, it will be alright.

Villian1 I can say from my version of Vanilla it is responsive as long as you program it in your theme or use their boiler plate theme and build out form there. But you could also program an app as an HTML5 wrapper and have basically a web site in an app wrapper which is also an option but cost dollars. Responsive is normally the best way to go so that it shrinks and stretches to what ever your screen size is.

Was just going for the last line there, not trying to imply that turning your monitor sideways was equivalent to hacking your system so it takes a fault as a command.

caspan, this may shock you but a forum is only as valuable as the community that uses it - we are the product - if people don't like it then it'll move to other locations - however, nobody is threatening that but you here and you aren't even part of the community - it's just really weird why you're even here at all

but you're clearly an expert so i wouldn't have thought it necessary to point that out to you - but the owners of this site while being perfectly happy if a few people left (especially a few specific ones i'm sure) they would certainly care if everyone left in droves as you are suggesting we do - if i were the site owner i'd be pretty annoyed with that ignorant post

as far as expertise goes, there are a number of highly acclaimed designers and engineers populating this forum - that doesn't matter at all in regards to their personal preferences for how the new version of the site is going to be but it's necessary to bring this up since you mistakingly believe your credentials are both relevant and impressive, which i can assure you is not the case

FYI, I pointed him to this thread as he is not a "pro" poker player as some of you seem to think you are, but is a terrific FULL TIME web designer and programmer, ie he makes a good living at it. Yes the community is built of people and with out the people the community is dead but people will get over it they threaten to leave but they never do because they want the community as much as the community wants them. So the point is just bitching about stuff helps nothing be constructive and help the admins make the new forum just as good as the old one.

You assume they are moving to the new one and that's it. Transfers an entire forum like this is MASIVE. Move the crap over then tweak stuff after everything can be changed they just know they have to move away form the old software and then once in place you can make changes once people are used to the new place.. if you asked everyones opinion now again everyone would want their own Pizza exactly the way they want it and would be pissed they were asked their opinion and it was ignored!

Programmers and IT are a community and we help each outer out because we live in a world where we're doing stuff for the first time. We're the people that populate the answers you look for on Google when you don't understand or get it. We live in a world of having no clue how stuff works but we figure it out and then share the information with other members of our community and support them. This is how a community works..

there's already quite a few threads where people are posting goodbyes because they don't want to deal with that god awful new software - this is very upsetting because these things snowball

this site has been on a steady decline for years, not simply due to the size of the game declining but people moving their discussions to slack/discord and the fresh blood going to twitter and reddit

You are allowed your opinion that's fine. If you love this forum so much and want to see it not DECLINE as you pointed out then help it by being constructive. No one will listen to you when you you just bash any attempt at pointing out this conversation is not constructive. You have no idea why this forum is declining ... personally the forum that i help manage has gone form thousands of users to like a hundred users.. .poker is dead some of us are still finding it and some of us still love it. The only way is to get new people interested in it and you cant do that with software from 2010. You have to use newer stuff that works with new technology so you can incorporate into new services like allowing login through Google or Microsoft account because people are too lazy to sign up for ANOTHER account.

If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem period! People can stomp their feet all they want. I migrated an entire office of people from Outlook and Exchange server to Gsuite. Half the company went nuts... this is junk i have to use a browser to get my email. I want outlook I'm not leaving it.. Same people came up to me 2 months later after they see the full picture and say wow this is soo much better I don't know how i ever used to even like Outlook as an email client...

People just don't like change. You'll get used to it. And if you have an issue after using the new software for a few weeks/months bring it up as a frustrating point in a constructive way to the admins.

Why though? Do they not understand that the end product isn't going to look the way it does right now?

There's no reason for drama yet. There were some obvious misunderstandings on our part about being ready to migrate. We're clearly not ready. I will post more about any changes when we know more.

I'm here to support the admins.. could care less about the forum member. People dont understand what its like to be an admin of so many users and the back lash you get. Admins you are doing a great job!! And as just stated it's not a final product yet. It's a work in progress and most likely will be for another few months after migration there is no way to tell how you will fit into something till you try it.

because people refuse change.. it's scary for them. People love routine and feel comfortable in routine. So when someone else has control over one of their routines they feel out of control and don't know how to handle it but to push it away as that is the easiest solution for them.

Change is hard, really hard.. people do not like stuff in their world changing
