Why does it look like a damn blog?

This is worse than the fake 2p2 front page.

+1 for hiring gregorio - those examples look very good.

Also - will all threads/post be migrated? IIRC, last time this happened, only posts with activity within the last x number of years were moved, so we had to bump "important" threads with no activity for a while?

This afternoon I will be forwarding all relevant questions to the people working on this. I will update as soon as I get answers.

In layman's terms, can you explain why the entire forum needs to be migrated over?

If a thread hasn't been bumped for a couple years, it's not important.

You can use Stylus, though, for similar effect without the ****ery (at least no ****ery is known to this day, and I'm not going to be held accountable for recommending it should there ever be ****ery.)

I just changed the layout from what Vanilla calls "Table" to "Modern".

I can also make CSS changes to improve the look and feel ... but want a consensus on the layout first.

We started with the Table layout as while it is not very readable in it's current form it might be a little more familiar.

What do you mean you had no choice? Where are we, China? You being forced to do this? Your answer makes no sense and like others have posted, 2+2 now is a shell of what it once was. I could go months without reading or posting anything and it wouldn't phase me in the slightest. This forum used to be great. Now it's just meh. But the new format sucks.

I mean, some of that is not 2p2's fault. Off the top of my head I can think of Black Friday and Reddit that have dwindled this forum's numbers over the past decade.

Working on it. Do you like the "Modern" layout better?

I just noticed the very popular MMA forums 'sherdog.com' is 'migrating' their site tommorow, it is another unique site I've always liked the formatting of - I do not know their current host but if it is also vbulletin then it might be a common change among multiple big forums changing hosts?

hopefully still an spril fools joke

the layout , while not as bad as the 90's one, still not as clean as v bulletin.

if I can get used to reddit I guess I can get used to this.

Biggest improvement for me would be a dynamic layout, so it takes advantage of larger screens rather than leaving all the white space on either side.

You're going to need to change the widths for .Container and .Frame-contentWrap o/w for sure. People do not like large whitespace margins, and with the sidebar and ads on the right there's lots to fit on the screen anyway.

And I guarantee you at least some people want ridiculous widths that make posts hard to read because you have to keep moving your eyes from left-to-right. I have our forum set to 1800px width and still had a complaint from someone with a 4096x2304 monitor who wanted the posts to take up his entire screen width, even though many paragraphs wouldn't even fill an entire line.

ETA: I mean even an old guy like Bobo who's used a VIC-20 display most of his life wants a wider view.

This is what the people will want:

Code:
.Container {
    margin: 0 auto;
    max-width: 1750px;
}
.Frame-contentWrap {
    width: 95%
}
.MainContent.Content {
    width: calc(100% - 320px);
    margin-right: 80px;
}

Done and ty

I guess people (like me) who preferred the fixed width can resize.

I'm very confused by this, even having read Chuck's explanation.

I also run a vBulletin version 4 forum. Granted, my forum is smaller and has less traffic than 2+2, but that isn't really relevant here.

I'm not thrilled that vBulletin is no longer supported with security/PHP version updates, but I see no reason to switch. The software is stable, and there aren't any known major security flaws at the moment.

Also, they have a version 5 of vBulletin, which IS supported. Why not buy that instead? I'm not doing it because it will clobber my custom mods, but I would 100% do that upgrade over switching to this Vanilla garbage.

You guys should really reconsider. Seems like the new software is universally hated.
