Something odd...

I was going through my PM sent items on my app. I saw I replied "Yo" to a sender that PM'd "Hi". Nothing else as far as conversation... that was it. I checked for original recieved post of "Hi"... nothing.

Couple points:

1) I barely use PM. 8 in, 25 out since I opened this account.

2) I have never deleted a single PM, in or out, yet the one I received from this poster is gone somehow. I dont even remember getting the PM or the response I gave.

3) The poster that PM'd me is in the German forum... I have never been in the German forum nor do I speak the language.

Theres something else I have a question about...

Not sure its connected to the above, but still a concern. Roughly around the same time my reply to above poster (as I think about it), a shortcut in my shortcut /icon screen on android popped up that I hadnt seen before.

This shortcut does not appear in my application log to be uninstalled/force closed yet remains where all the others are displayed "publicly".

Thoughts please?

It is possible the account belonged to a scammer or phishing takeover and their outgoing PMs were deleted.

Just want to wish the regs of ATF a Happy Thanksgiving. Also, wondering what the plans of my fellow regs are.

The fiancee and I are going to the restaurant of a local chef who has appeared on national tv for what I am sure will be "a most excellent meal." Actually, I know it is going to be excellent because this will be our third year of having Thanksgiving dinner there.

Where can I start a thread to get the best help with the math involved regarding speed traps.

I am not asking for legal advice, Im doing it myself. I just need to know the math. The math involved in the timing from point (a) to point (b) as well as the deviation resulting from human error.

Thank you and happy Thanksgiving to all

To be clear... I am not being a weasely pos trying to get out of a measily $100 ticket unjustly. In fact, I actually turned on to the road that I was allegedly speeding on to get away from an ******* tailgater that had been up my ass for roughly 3-5 miles so I didnt have to speed.

Thats what I was kind of thinking but the science & philosophy part makes me think no one would want to be bothered with this stupid ****. Resulting in me being infracted. And Im not interested in being infracted again. Im scared to start a thread there.

Back around '79 I took a FCC license prep class to score a First Class License, required at the time for a decent production job at any TV station. After passing third, then second class tests and during the first class prep, the teacher offered a shot at the radar endorsement (required to work on aircraft radio and radar systems) with the promise you would be able to beat any speed trap ticket in court.

Unfortunately I was not interested in radio repair and passed it up.

I was in court once and watched every time someone tried to contest the accuracy of the radar, the judge gave the same answer. "This is the same technology that the FAA uses to guide airplanes in for a landing at an airport 100's of miles away from ATC. I am going with the radar results."

The only stumble was when the officer was asked if he had calibrated the radar gun that morning.

Not radar. Timed event (v-spec). Where the officer needs to turn the machine on (point A), then off (point B) as a vehicle enters, then exits the "trap".

The thing is calibrating those things is easy, you get a set of tuning forks and you're supposed to check every shift.

Also (at least in the jurisdiction I worked in) in order to qualify to use the radar, you had to practice visually estimating speed then take a test where you correctly calculated the speed of various cars to +/- 3 MPH.

As long as they get regular maintenance they are pretty damn accurate tho.

Are you talking about v-spec or VASCAR? These are both timing devices like a stopwatch. Where an officer needs to activate, then deactivate the system exactly as vehicle crosses one point and then another.
Radar is point and shoot. Or it can be stationary and throwing a constant beem and when a vehicle goes through, it will alert to actual vehicle speed (depending on specific speed the officer sets) . Radars feedback is instant.

Not sure how accurate handheld radar considering they are not allowed to be used in my state. But again, might be a human error thing. Wasnt radar though.

I saw the fuzz in plenty of time to let my foot off of gas. I crossed first line at 7mph slower than he said I was going. I have yet to go back and test how much slower I would have been going by the time I hit the second line. Some preliminary tests I have done using the time it took me to cross both lines (indicated on citation) showed a drop of 3-4mph more.

...oh crap, the info was on part of citation they ripped off when I went to set court date. Pretty sure it was 2.1 seconds traveling .00227miles ... 38mph in 25. When I looked @ speed when hitting first line, my actual speed was 31mph.
