Well, what I wanted to talk about is that my grandpa and another one of my relatives were bohemian chessmasters who were honored by many organizations for their chess compositions. He wrote a book while teaching chess that is fairly rare now and goes for about 400-500 dollars a copy. So their best chess compositions went unpublished but I have them. Someone from Eastern Europe offered me 7k for them which I of course declined. In that way, I have a piece of chess history that will remain ever hidden and never digitized. Chess is one of the first arts killed by robots.

Seems like something you could have just posted without needing someone to ask you to and then getting upset when no one did.

Also, if you're interested, we have a Chess forum:

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/1...r-board-games/

Just in case you weren't aware of it.

I love chess studies/puzzle/problems books and have quite a few of them.

Have you considered publishing the ones you've got? I haven't looked into it, but I believe self-publishing via amazon (and probably others) is quite achievable. Not sure what the rights-situation is in your case of course, but if it could be done, I'd order a copy for sure

I have ordered some (e)books via amazon which must be self-published, when you say it.

Bryce, not pushing it, with all respect, but grandpa might be proud if you showed the world and made a few bucks on the side.

Imagine a world where Einstein or Newton never published and their descendants decided they'd rather keep them because they didn't want to feel like they were taking advantage and just out for the money? Or that maybe keeping it made them feel unique and special?

I wouldn't guess what your motivations are, but don't think about the publishing as being selfish and a way to make money off your grandfathers personal achievements. Maybe think of it as a way to show the world how great he was and a way for him to get the recognition he deserves? I commend the ability to go against the grain on issues. I just think you're maybe looking at it from the wrong perspective? No one is going to think you're just being a money grubber if you publish the works.

Well in regards to recognition he did gain recognition at the time. He was on the absolute forefront of chess thought and research .... in the 1920's. His puzzles appear occasionally in collections in Russia for example. He wasn't the top chess player in Bohemia ... like steinitz but he was a very strong player.

I don't think I would make much money. Russian chess thought has been eclipsed
By computers that have been eclipsed by algorithms. I myself am not so good at that game.

I gave up chess for something worthy: poker.

How good? As Einstein luckily said: things are relative.

I think I have the latest version of Google Chrome (v63.0.3239.132) since it automatically updates on a Windows PC.

I have not been seeing any warnings.

Yeah, I see now. I was on my phone earlier. It's because the page contains a reference to an image that isn't being loaded over HTTPS:

It's your blog. If you don't want someone posting there, tell them not to, and if they do, report the posts and I'm sure niss would be happy to enforce your wishes.
