Your Longest Winning Streak? Your Longest Winning Streak?

I got unconscious over a summer a couple different times. One was 26 for 27 winning sessions (the game broke up only an hour or so in, so might have been 27 in a row), the other was 31 in a row. Both streaks ended with absolute slaughter sessions, my two biggest losses ever. After that 31 I got interested in other's longest winning streaks, and the longest I had quoted to me was 24. I was shocked a lot of guys were saying like 5 or 6. Didn't even seem reasonable. But it was hard to discuss because everybody took it as a brag, when I was really trying to get at the extreme anomaly of it, not that I was outplaying anybody. They took it more as gloating arrogance.

The 31 in a row was supposed to be a normal about 27-4 heater or so, but what happened at the very end of those 4 near "losses" was super sick luck ... and it added up to 31 in a row over 4 months or so. They do feel good. I so wanted it to continue thru the 30's because that is where baseball hitting streaks get truly rare, and I was going to write about it comparing it to the hitting streaks, and it is somewhat comparable statistically.

Just wondering what some longest streaks are.

7 or 8 winning live sessions in a row is probably close to my record

The higher winrate you have the more likely you string together those wins

Thanks for the simple sincere response ... quite a rarity. I do find it an interesting subject. Don't worry, I paid for the mega heater.

Can you agree then that the 31 in a row is a bit ... mystifying, or something like that. In those days I had a long established about 65% win rate. 31 in a row at 65%.

Yeah 31 in a row is pretty high end of the heater spectrum. Right now I have 1,766 live hours recorded with a 60% win rate and just doing a quick scroll I couldn't really find more than 8 wins in a row

Was on a huge down swing for me, maybe the biggest ever. Wsop time turned it around. Up until today I won 11 in a row and 15 of 16 sessions. Lost 90bbs today so very small hit.

Lost my scratch work on this daggone it. I think it came up to 1 in 1000 chance a 31 win streak would appear in a series of 2000 trials with a 65% established session win rate?? (Not sure if the 2000 trials is the right figure I used in particular.)

And I have no idea how it affects the odds when factoring in that I wasn't even actually a favorite to win in the game. By which I mean if everybody in that game played a million hands and the results were tallied, I'm quite sure I'd be a loser against all the pros, semi-pros and the rake. You can be a favorite to win in a particular session of course without being this kind of long term favorite. But what an oddity 31 in a row for pretty much a non-advantage player.

Should have called the thread: Recreational Player Wins 31 Sessions In A Row Versus Pros: Then The Flip Side Karma Came Straight Out Of Hell

Playing PLO the other night and my thinking has reached this point:

Protagonist: A-K-J-2, double suited all red.
Antagonist: 7-9-9-10, double suited all black

Flop: 2c-2s-6c.

I Bet 50 utg. He calls. Heads up now.

Turn: Ac

Bet 125. He calls.

River: 9

And here's the thing. As soon as I saw the river, I put him on pocket 9's (with maybe two pocket pair). This streak is so bizarre that it made perfect sense to suspect this hand. I bet 175, he tanks. He must be the slowest player in the room, keeps tanking and Hollywooding, but his tank can result in fold, call or raise ... he's done it all several times in this session, so his tank is legit somehow. After about 5 minutes, again bizarrely, he shows pocket 9's and folds. Everybody is just WTF?

So it turns out he misread the hand, thinking he only had the flush and tripped his 9, but was overlooking the pair of deuces on the board, or something. But his perfect death card came again, 450 sessions of this is the only way I can think as I'm describing here, and I put him on the hand that he had that he himself didn't put himself on. About a $500 gift that the neverending cooler stack had me set up for. But, he had a brain cramp. Weird stuff. I put him on the nines full. Which is bizarre.

I put every player on 9s full. If I can beat that, I bet. If not, I fold.

It’s how I’ve been a winning player for more than 20 years.

That and I’m one of the guys who has the game rigged in their favor. But I’m not supposed to mention that part.

In Albuquerque back in 1995 at Sandia Indian Casino (shortly after they opened) my buddy Robert (I'm certain people who are from that area and/or time will know who I am referring to) won 90 times in a row in the 5-10 Pot Limit Hold'em game that ran daily! For context, Robert was/is a talented big bet player (although he does have a tilt factor), however, Poker was new to the area and until several pros from Las Vegas and elsewhere showed up (Mike Alsaadi, Ronnie Watts, Al Korson, etc.) he was a couple of levels above the locals and had some incredible results. Longest winning streak I have ever heard of, at least one that was on the square.

Aggrodude,
I know it's a large number. Like I said, Robert was/is a strong mid to high stakes player (finished in the top 40 in the Main Event one year and also final tabled a $3k (I believe) event as well) who just happened to have the good fortune of being at the right place at the right time as he was playing against people who primarily had little or no poker experience (at least in the sense of a casino setting) and he had a big skill advantage before the word got out and several pros arrived. I was there (working at the Downs at Albuquerque) and witnessed it firsthand.

Some people don't have a grasp of what the game used to be like. 80% as a top side win rate is way low when the game is populated by drunks, skunks, totally readable knits, people who came out of the 5-stud era and could not adjust to the flop games, business men just blowing off steam like it's a party at the country club, etc. The thing was so lopsided in terms of what they would give their chips away with it defies belief by modern players. Patience alone would get you an 80% win rate. Patience plus knowing your players about 90%. And out of the millions of players playing, we would expect some humongous streaks. Of course luck is always a factor in the game, but there is a point where it is almost like a pro golfer against a 20-handicapper. Nah, maybe a 12 handicapper. Something like that. Gonna win almost every time. A couple of the guys who had played a decade or so before me said things like, "I expect to win almost every time." It was real. The good old days.

Just as an example, they flop the 2nd nut straight in PLO. Then it comes the flush. Then it pairs the board. They played it like in 7-stud: "No way I'm folding a straight made."

Brag: I have now cashed in 7 of my last 8 MTTs on Bovada ($10 & $15 entries)
Beat: Total net winnings = $141.06
What do I need to do to final table again?
All answers (especially of the sarcastic and demeaning variety) appreciated.

With 65% win rate, to win 31 in a row is .65^31 = 1 in 630,501
I think I won about 13 in a row once at 10-20 limit live with a 70% win rate at the time. .70^13= 1 in 103.
I won 28 in a row at 5c-10c online, but my win rate at the time was 90%. .90^28= 1 in 19
