This would be the absolute worst kind of person to argue about it too. I can just imagine the self-satisfied reasoning in their head when they talk to you about it, convinced that anyone who plays is a degenerate and is deceiving themselves, trying to fit you into psychological models rather than think about their assumptions. I hate intelligent people (presumably) who have learnt to stop thinking about some things

About a year or two ago, a facebook professional poker player keeps talking about how good he is at poker and blablabla, so I challenged him to a heads up game at my house, 200NL. A couple days later, he brought another facebook kid to watch. He got lucky and won the match, so I challenged him to 5K NL. Since he is an ego maniac, I just need to say a few words to make him play. I told him to bring at least 10k next week, cause if he is "unlucky", he needs to rebuy and play again.

I played bad and ran bad, but i still won all his money. Hes in debt now. His mom calls me and my mom telling me to give him back his money and blablabla......loser, I am glad that hes in debt now.

One for the pros

just tell people how you lost 400$ today playing poker not how you can grind yourself a enough to get by, you wont usually get any more moralizations after that
people are more likely to try to shoot you down if you have a big ego and brag about your winnings, since they don't think you can make any money gambling (which is correct actually, but proper poker isn't gambling...) and they just have to tell how their superior mind can stay away from gambling and the degen you should too...

as for facebook braggers- bring the fish into the tank, not scare them away... everybody relies on influx of new players and shot takers who take the money up, do you want to make money or play with regs until the rake cleans you out

Plays poker for money. Calls is a job????
Won some money, lost 5k.

When she came back and i told her i saw what she typed down she got all defence about how she wasn't prejudged against me now that she knows i'm a degenerate gambler and that it's normal because ADHD hardly ever comes without other problems.

Interesting thread. I have a (half joking) suggestion for all the pros who want to give an honest answer when people ask what they do:

Just say something along the lines of, "Most people have a hard time understanding what I do for a living (apparently true), so I'll give you a simplified example." Then just play the cup game blind with the person (3 cups, 1 has an object underneath it, person has to guess which cup has the item, but in this case don't let them see which cup you're putting the item under initially). Tell them that every time they guess correctly (theoretically 33.3333%), they win $1 and every time they guess incorrectly (theoretically 66.6666%), you win $1.

Never mention poker and if possible do not go into any additional explanation.

if you have such swings you ARE degenerate gambler. no offence. or at least you tend to "occasionally tilt".

while ago, when I got 50$ from PS, I told one of my friends about that.
He: can you take out that money?
Me: Yes of course, but I will not take it out!
He: HAH! Then you can't take it out. Why do you think, that someone will give you credit for free?
Me: ...

When I cashed out 100$, I told him about that and he still dont belive these things..

This post is dumb. If he plays $300/$600 NL, those swings are tiny. He only does 1-2 hours a day, if he's capable of winning $10k in a month we're probably talking $400nl and looking at 30buyins from peak to peak which is pretty standard
