ughh. I hate when ppl use the "their money" scenario.

I've started to tell my employees its ok to lose their paycheck back to me (I'm the boss), as it was my money in the first place, therefore they didn't actually lose anything.

Hey, you have a cool job. Sometimes people are interested. Small price to pay.

He plays poker on the internet."

him: "oh, really?"
me: "yeah"

For the next ten minutes, I'm stuck listening to how he won $40 at a home game once and that he prefers pocket twos to pocket aces.

What negative experiences have you guys had when someone found out you play poker for a living and/or on the internet?
Ok so you don't tell people you play poker because you can't stand people trying to be nice to you? The only thing that is wrong with this situation is that you think you are better than him.

And half the recent posts in this thread. "My mum doesn't know I make $100/hour playing poker, so when she tried to pay me $10 to do the lawn I laughed in her face and set fire to her favourite rug to teach her how rich I am"

I don't know why but seeing this picture (and the responses) made me laugh so hard I cried and couldn't catch my breath. I didn't even notice the king/jack until someone commented on it.

Thanks for the laugh!

Most people don't get it. Like my mother...

But explaining it to nonplayers is possible, except the people who think that luck dictates everything.

It seems like most of the kids who make money playing poker are the kids that were outcast in highschool. Now theey make a little money and don't know how to act. When people even try to act like they care, try tp act like it pisses them off because they read this forum and think that is how you are supposed to act.

Hats off to you *******s!!

One more thing. I use to count cards when i went to school in LV. When a friend said something to someone and they got all interested and would just drop some really complicated terms and they usually shyed away from asking questions. Alot of people would say stuff like, "My mind is like a sponge, just tell me, I'm a quick learner." After five minutes of explaining they realize how much commitment it takes to learnt o count down a deck and neverr bring up the topic again.

This might not work with poker because everyone who plays, even the fish, already think they know everything. When you try to teach you they usaully take it has an insult. Ex. Home game: tald some guys he should have called an all-in because of pot odds.. he needed to call 20 more iin a 150 pot.. he tells me, "your an idiot, i'm not call an all-in bet with KJ." lol

The best one I've heard is my dad's theory that heads up poker is easier to beat.Reasoning? More cards in the deck that can help you....

Telling someone at work that you play and win is the worst thing ever (the same reasons as mentioned - constant questions about winnings and beautiful theories how poker is just luck during every lunch). Now I only run the story that I have cashed out and do not play anymore.

The family part is not that bad and my wife thankfully understands that I play quite well and therefor we can have some benefits like extra vacations and stuff that would normally be out of the question. Plus I can talk with her about losses or wins when I need which is a major plus.

The main question from strangers whom I have somehow gotten to the subject:
- Are you at least even?
* Yes.
- No, I mean the whole lifetime!

I'd lose it if someone essentially told me that I suck at my job, and that my life will go to **** in the future.
i've gotten this so much as kind of a half joke half serious statement from girls mostly but also guys. my go to response is "if i was addicted i'd be making a lot more money. seriously, i'm really lazy when it comes to playing and it's hard to motivate myself to do it".

also i have a roommate who plays playchips on ftp. i always get a good laugh when i hear him on the phone talking to a girl about how he's just playing a poker tournament and how many playchips he's up/down. recently he's been switching to cashgames and he'll buyin for like 5k playchips and run it up to 90k and start yelling and tell one of our friends that's doing something else to "come look bro".

haha good posts here
I have an uncle who HAS to be right about everything no matter what
So he learns I'm a poker player and goes on and on about how its all about luck, how online you lose the only edge any professional has (physical tells) and he continued to say that in headsup its always 50/50 NO MATTER WHAT CARDS YOU HAVE. lol. Its so funny to sit there and listen/debate with him but man sometimes it really gets annoying. He thinks that online poker is completely rigged and he constantly tries to warn me to cash my money out before the site "presses the switch" to drain my bankroll. He has never played a game of online poker in his life. Hes played a few home games with us at family get togethers and hes always the first one out. Complete fish in the game to say the least.

i played live yesterday with a friend and someone at the table started talking about playing poker on the interwebs and my idiot friend quickly added that i play 6-12 tables at a time.... the ppl at the table, 40+ yrs old were all like, 'ur going to lose everything kid, internet poker is rigged, u have a problem, blah blah blah'

to change topics i suggest we all put $20 in pre and check it down, 8 ppl, including me complied and the oldest guy at the table obv didnt want any part of it and mucked pre. Since it was my idea, i clearly won the pot after hitting a st8 and ppl soon forgot i played online and the conversation eased.
