Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

I love the

Q;"What do you do now?"

A;"I play poker for a living"

Q;"Oh..ok. But how do you get money for the rent and stuff?"

One guy went on a 10 minute speech about how the bank wouldn't give me a loan if I asked them for one, and that I eventually would loose all my money because a friend of his had lost a lot of money playing poker.

I think a lot of people sees me as unemployed spending a few hours a day on a hobby.

That's how I see all you jokers. And it pisses me off that you can make a good living doing it!

Q: "Do you actually make money?"

A: "Yes."

Q. "but can you actually withdraw the money?"

A. "Yes."

Q. "But have YOU actually seen any of the money?"

A. "Yes."

Q. "But if you deposit $500 how much can you really lose?"

A. **Dickslap across the face**

Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

Them : oh you play poker? How much do you play for?

Me : Well I've played up to $800NL but I usually play 2-400

Them : Yeah but how much do you play per hand

me : Well it doesn't really work like that it really depends on...

Me : Well I understand if you don't want to discuss it just don't get in too deep

Re: Why I don\'t tell people I play poker.

This thread is great.

I always throw out extremely high numbers and go directly into stats analysis of the game. If they haven't gotten sad/confused and stopped talking to me by then I tell them bad beat stories for hours.

I don't ask people stupid questions about their jobs, I feel I should be treated the same way.

I'd have no problems if people actually listened to what I have to say about poker, but it's like...

"It's addicting are you addicted?"

- If I say "no, yada yada yada" - "You're in denial."

I think you all need to spend a small fraction of your bankroll on a sick watch (or somethin' shiny) and to keep your wardrobe updated with some fresh gear.. If people see you lookin' clean and know you don't work, they will know what the [censored] is up..

If they ask a question about your income, you say "look at me", kinda throw your head back and walk away with an A.C Slater type of strut..

Okay?

Yes, I can double your $300 and I'll guarnatee it. My fee is $700 BTW.

As for being called a poker addict, I just remind them this addiction is making me money, as opposed to my old addiction: heroin.
Usually followed by awkward silence, but occasinly someone realises I'm joking and actually laughs.

Just answer "Yes, I AM addicted. Addicted to huge sums of monies yo!!!"

Then challenge them to play heads up for their yearly salary. Or better yet offer to flip them for it.
