yea seriously. most of myfriends understand it and are supportive. i did get the give me money to double up and how much did you lose lines a few times before though.

I think the generally accepted value is one BB per hour. So ~ $6 / hour. I'm sure more would be possible, but most really good players tend to move up.

Oh yeah, and my dad insists that every game I play in I am bound to get cheated out of all my money. In home games and clubs the guys running the game are stacking the deck. In casinos I can be sure that at every table I sit at I am the only one who is not part of this secret inner circle the other nine people at the table are all signaling each other about their hands so they can all come after me at once. And at most online tables at least 5 of people at any given table is actually one person running five machines. So obviously I can't win at poker.

I am so fortunate to have some really good pro and semi pro players that have taught me a lot. One in particular has completely reshaped my game and helped to turn me into a strong player. I did know how to play the game when I met him and I didn't run up to him asking him for help. We just hit it off after I took a couple of big pots off him (pure luck), became great friends after he took many pots off me and he has become something of a tutor for me. I am glad not everyone has the same hate teaching people attitude.

My mom totally understands why I play (although she doesn't understand HOW TO play). She is super supportive. So is my brother, who after spending five hours in Vegas with me called my parents about five times in a week to talk about how impressed he was watching me play cards.

My dad is as far on the other end of the spectrum as he can be, along with my sister. My sister is a professional bartender/alcoholic. But I am the irresponsible degenerate! I pay my bills, raise my son on my own. Even home school him. But I play cards- which is "risking money when I have a child to care for." It isn't exactly like I am gambling away my rent money. Not yet making enough to pay my rent with poker money but consistently winning more than I lose- which is more than she can say about the way she spends her weekends at the bar.

Homeschooling is like child abuse. Get him in public school. The whole point of school is to learn social interactions not to learn book knowledge.

The worst is getting "outed" as I like to call it. The whole "DUDE I HEARD YOU WON LIKE TEN THOUSAND BUCKS!!" in front of 5-10 people. Love that

Last night my friend came in my dorm while I was 8 tabling and he was like "zomg. Is that teh pokers?" He watched for an hour and insisted I come play with him and his buddies for play across campus. Since their my freinds, I humored them and I had to put up with 2 hours of questions like "dude, what's the biggest you ever won?" "have you ever gotten a royal flush." "do you like bet small since you play so many tables at once?" sigh.

Honestly I just wish I was at a point with my game where I could claim that I am making a living at it. I'd happily put up with all the annoying questions to be able to quit my ****ty day job completely and play full time. I love this game and while some of my friends and family can get on my nerves asking me all the time if I have a gambling problem I would love to be able to respond with- if by problem you mean paying all of my bills then yes, I have a problem. Right now I can say I win more than I lose. But I am looking forward to the day I can hopefully have a stronger response

Good post. I feel the same way, I would gladly put up w/ all the negative responses while paying all my bills and living comfortably.

Of course if we're living comfortably and having nice things then the poor Bastards like us now are gonna be envious of our freedom.

He was in public school. My son chooses not to do ANY of his work when he is in public school. AT ALL! I would LOVE to put him back in school, but if I did he would be left off at a fourth grade education level for a long time. But trust me- getting him back in school is the end goal.

FWIW he does go to a number of activities with other kids and his interactions with his peers. I have him attending a home school program one day a week where he is in a class with other kids in an attempt at working him back towards regular school. The problem is he isn't being successful there either.

That was not very professional of him was it? A real professional gambler would have made lots of money, bought a house and car, invested a good chunk of winnings and be sitting pretty.

Her friends brother was probably an addicted gambler rather than a professional gambler.
